Just got the Blue Sky plans. I am planning on the boxes to be my galley. Easy to store and adjustable to my liking. It's part of my winter projects.

Just bought the Blue Sky plan book. I was all set to begin building a pretty complicated galley setup in my teardrop with multiple drawer slides, lazy susan bearings, etc to make everything stow compactly yet pull out for easy access and to make counter space. Then I saw those chuck boxes. They're very well designed, simple, versatile, and sturdy. They're impressive. Now if the other half agrees, I might just make a chuck box and set up my kitchen that way, instead. Very cool!

Well I can report the chuck box we made from the Blue Skies plans came out just fine. They've been using it for years now and has gone camping at least 25 times. They do a lot of camping with the boy scouts.

The only comment I have about the plans is they were a bit difficult to understand. Paul was able to build it with the help of my father. Perhaps he might have gotten it down with the plans if my father wasn't helping. Dad's a craftsman at cabinets and all kinds of construction. He finally chucked the plans and they built it according to the image.

It works just like the one in the video.

I made a chuck box-like projector box to store my outdoor movie electronics. It has a pop-top to place the projector and a drop down door like a chuck-box where my battery backup, mixer, mic, iPod and DVD player go. It was the first project I built, before I tackled my cargo trailer conversion, and no one told me using 3/4" hardwood ply all around was both overkill and too heavy. The "chuckbox" weighs 80 lbs and is a bear to move around!

I also mounted handles to the sides, but didn't check to place them above the center of gravity, so when two people pick it up, it turns turtle. I had to mount two more handles higher up.

The boy scouts I camp with have multiple patrol boxes made with what looks like 1/4" or 3/8" ply, and they are plenty strong.

I use a pair of Sterilite plastic bins to hold my camp kitchen, easy enough. I printed out an inventory page for each box and taped it to the underside of the lid, so I could make sure I have everything.

I might revisit the chuckbox this summer using thinner wood!

Another idea I just had is to start with a "roadie" box... like the ones that DJ's and bands carry their gear around in, they are usually made from ~1/4" ply and have all the corners protected.

Just a thought.

I built one a few summers ago, but now I'm building a teardrop with the galley in the back so I don't have to haul it around!

It has self-leveling legs to some degree - I carry a few short 2x4's in case the ground is too uneven. It's pretty big, nice for the large family group we camp with once a year, but too big for anything else. I may build one about half that size for just me and my son, if the AirDrop doesn't happen soon.

I have the plans and hope to start on the two boxes with the counter this week The way the plans are you get a cutting list of all peices, then each page shows you how to put each piece together. I think I am going to try to use pocket hole on mine.Daisy

Which plans are you building? I have been thinking of building myself.
