Like others here, I'm always packed. TD makes life easy. I live close to some wilderness areas. I'll go there for even just an afternoon or just a night. Even one night away is always welcome.

Oh, and for Christmas, the roads were snow free. So, I hooked up the Little Guy and pulled it 12 miles out to be with friends. No worries about having adult beverages and then driving home. I just went to sleep in the trailer instead.

I told a co worker that I like to camp alone today and she looked at me like I was from Neptune, just couldn't understand it. Some people are just not cut out for it. Sometimes it's great to not speak for days at a time.

Well I'm not completely alone...I do talk. My shih-tzu is my camping companion. ;)

We are quite happy to camp out for one night. Our favourite site is 120 km away (about a 2 hour drive) and well worth the 20 minutes it takes to pack up, hitch up and head out.

It is why we bought a teardrop

When I had a small TT we would take overnight trips I found that when we got a bigger trailer we didn't because of the hassle of hooking unhooking.

when I use to be employed we would head out sat night come back sunday just to get away and we used a tent that was almost 50 years ago time has a way of changing what you do.

I know EXACTLY where that is. Caught an 8# bass off the dock to the right when it was newly built (im old).

It's a great park. I really wish they'd put in some dry camping back up behind the tennis courts, below the dam near where the boy scouts camp, or up in some of the open areas that aren't heavily used. The 'beach' for instance has a big gravel parking lot that could be used for boondocking or turned into a dry camping area, or even with water/elec. Or the big grassy area just north of it. One park ranger could run it overnight, with back up from the county sheriff (which is what the ranger is really) if needed, and I bet they would come out far ahead of the curve even if they opened it only on summer weekends. Would just have to keep the undesirables out and from tearing up the place after dark. But I think the weekends with the sailboat races, Du/Triathlons, and other events would make for busy weekends.

<back on topic>
While I dont have a TD, I always found one nighters undesirable. Just not enough time to kick back. But I have had a few all night fishing trips that could have used something to get out of the weather.

Speaking of one nighters... I want to tow my new Jewel Box a little bit , to see if it's too heavy for my car and the weather will be great for a motorcycle ride... so after Kenny gets off work early Saturday morning and I get a bicycle ride -- I'm gonna drive the Jewel to Okmulgee St Park and he'll follow on the motorcycle. Then we'll get a spot and lock it up, go riding for a while and out to dinner, then have a comfy place to come back and relax with a fire and a movie , then head home Sunday before work again.

I love telling people at work I am heading off alone, during the week when campgrounds are pretty empty. They just shake their heads and walk away.

For the last six years, I go on a spiritual retreat...alone every November and May and I camp Sunday evening through Thursday "when the campgrounds are pretty empty". I usually get the, "Aren't you scared?" question. I have never had a problem. At one place that I camp, the camp hosts have always taken extra care to come introduce themselves the 1st day. The Park Rangers know me at the other place that I camp most frequently.

...and yes it is good to just not to speak for a few days, just comune.

A view of our one nighter... ....

I worked the 2nd job Fri night, Kenny worked overnight and napped Saturday morning till noonish.
I had errands to do , and don't have the TD at my house & it's still in work progress so I had to load some things into the car. Drove to his house and didn't get there till about noon... Loaded things in , hooked to my car ... little problem with taillight ground ... fixed that.

Didn't get to leave his place till almost 2 pm! Took a state highway to a lake about 80 miles away , but we were starving .Stopped less than halfway at a good bbq place , sat & ate. Got to the lake, no problem . Parked , sat and had a beer . ... relaxed... Then only got to motorbike a bit into town , get some light bulbs and munchies ... by this time, it's almost dinner time to stopped for that. Got back to camp about dark and relaxed under some gorgeous stars.

Slept in a bit this morning , but the winds had picked up something awful and Kenny had to be at work tonite , so we headed home.

DEFINITELY made some observations about doing a quick trip next time... of course , the camper will be better stocked and not in "shop mode" .

Yup, I can see how that trip could have been totally different once you get all the little knick knacks squared away.....

Left at noon, arrived at campsite at 1:30, made lunch, lounged around until dinner, Cleaned up while Kenny lit campfire, enjoyed fire until late... slept in, didn't notice wind, checked out at 2pm for a full camping experience :)

I used to sail to the Channel Islands for the weekend alone. GREAT! One time I took a friend of Suzy's. He didn't stir from horizontal all weekend as he had "mal de mer". It was a lovely weekend with good fair winds for the directions we were sailing. Quiet, good food, good books, tranquility!

After we got back to the marina, docked, and as we walked away from the boat (he was thankful to be on terra firma again) he asked: "You actually enjoyed that?"

I simply said: "It doesn't get any better than that!", ha!

One nighters and solitude are good for the soul.

Cheers,

Gus
