I was just thinking that in my case it would be cool to construct a 12V cooler to my exact specifications. I could make it narrow and a top loader for efficiency as well as make it super insulated. I could hard wire the DC converter in too.

The really awesome part of building such a cooler perminently in place is that the hot part of the unit with the fan on it you could locate through a hole in the side wall with a shroud over the fan, so that all the heat goes directly outside. No heat added inside only cold added to the inside of the cooler. The article I linked above states that the complete cooling module can be had for 33 dollars. I do not know if that price still apllies today.

I think it would work well in my application but I doubt it would be perfect for a rear outside galley application. My interior space would be air conditioned, but an outdoor galley would not be. So if it was 90 degrees outside, your coolr could only cool down to 50 degrees.
