Before we get to Florida, we are staying 4 nights at Huntington Beach SP in South Carolina, 2 nights at Tybee Island GA, which is next to Savannah, so we'll go into Savannah and eat at Paula Deen's restaurant, then we're staying on Jekyll Island for 8 weeks before we go into Florida. All this is reserved and paid for except for Jekyll, which is reserved but we pay when we get there. Last year we only made it south as far as Jekyll, where we stayed for 3 weeks, but some days were a little too cool so we're hoping Florida will be warmer. The four state parks on the SC coast have good monthly rates, but winter temps weren't warm enough.

doug hodder wrote:You should pick up the Foghorn Outdoors California Camping guide. It has over 1500 campgrounds for tents and RV's. While a lot of the sites are by reservation, there are quite a few that are first come first serve. It rates them all and lists the amenities/attractions for each. Doug

I second this recommendation. The Foghorn books rate the sites on the same criteria I like to use. The primary ones being "How good is the scenery in the campground?" & "How far away are your neighbors". Even with my larger pop-up, I nearly always dry camped with whatever water I had in my tank and no power hook-ups. If I needed water, I would use a cube or bucket to go fetch it. My wife tends to prefer only camps with flushies, and we had a cartridge potty in the camper. If I need light, I used lantern. If I needed entertainment, I got a book or a deck of cards.

I have found several jewel campgrounds that most people miss and can normally be reserved pretty close to the camp date.
