Flash is largely dead, though. 99% of devs are deveolping in HTML 5 now. Even Adobe has announced that it is abandoning Flash.

There's a lot of it out there today, but that's going to change over the next year.

Unless the site is whitelisted by Microsoft as safe, or the developer rewrites using something other than Flash, you are out of luck.

Well, you can get aroudn the problem, but it's not easy, and you have to edit the whitelist every time you come across a website where Flash doesn't work.

Well here I am again, still struggling with Windows 8. Well maybe struggling isn't the right word. I'm getting used to it, but it's not pretty. For example, when I'm in the desktop, which is Windows 7, I'll click on the Internet Access button in the taskbar, and it'll pop up a metro interface with a list of connections available. The whole system is like that. You can't get away from Metro.

It makes me wonder which direction they are headed in for Windows 9.

For a tablet there is only 1 answer... an iPad.

I have checked out the Android and the iPad, and after having both in my possession for a while, I found myself using the iPad 100% of the time. So I sold the Android.

I did add a Zagg keyboard with backlighting which I prefer to the virtual keyboard...

But if you only want to buy 1 tablet, the iPad with the Retina display is the way to go.

I got my husband a nice little Asus Transformer (ANDROID OS) this past year, and it sits, unused, because we don't have time or inclination to deal with the learning curve on a new device with a different operating system. I am so sorry I did not get an I Pad. I use a MAC at work and I think the I Pad would be much, much easier for both of us. Next time......
And be sure you really want a tablet. What we really needed was a basic little net book to replace one that was stolen.

JUST get after market browser, and have icon on desktop (or put IE 8 (poop) icon on desktop) .... Want to use internet, click browser icon for browser.... Stay away from any windows task bar features.... Secret is relegate windows to back ground (remember its a operating system) and launch programs by menu (Start) or desktop icon.... Browser will do all the heavy lifting to connect you to internet...

Secret here is to turn off or avoid most features of windows that are useless or you do not need...

I was staying with my SIL over Thanksgiving. She decided to update her 6yr old desktop and liked the integrated touch screen computers. Found an i5 HP with 8gig of RAM for a decent price. Since I am her tech support I had to transfer the files from her old computer wipe it, and reinstall Windows. Then I had to setup her new one, prior to shopping with her I'd never touched Win8. I'm not crazy about it, didn't understand why the browser app is different from using IE. She called the other day and said that one of her e-mail accounts disappeared off the mail tile. I told her, I haven't a clue why. It will take some getting used to based on my brief exposure, the jury is still out.

Mike;

You're calling the IE app. If you get the start button back and go all programs, right-click IE and pin to taskbar, you can open IE without messing around with Metro.

Metro is an obstructive piece of crap. Try opening a picture and then moving to another program without closing the picture. Every time something opens on my desktop with an app, I stop and install a program to handle it. I run Windows because I want to window, dangit!

Agree 100% on the iPad. I pretty much despise the way Apple does business, but their tablets and phones just work. Android you have to play with every time something changes.

Love it. I'll never go back to Windows.

Yup, if you want your start button, don't like waving your hands and arms all over. which would be bad for me as my shoulders are about shot. And your system does not have the sensors for that any way.

GET A LINUX DISTRO. Ubuntu or Fedora. I have been using Ubuntu for almost a year. Billy Gates and crew can kiss my fat hairy.......... never mind

Right click it instead and choose "Open Network and Sharing Center".

It's a pain. I am slowly finding ways to deal with Windows 8. I honestly believe they are going to be forced to split this thing back into a mobile distro and a desktop distro. Metro is just not going to sell to corporate customers, period.

Well I got my new laptop...

The first day was pretty painful trying to get things loaded and working. Primarily because I did not know how to find the settings I wanted. But after a few days, I have to say, I am not hating it. It is really different from the previous windows versions. But with the touch screen on this laptop I can move through things fairly quickly. I am hoping that over the next couple of weeks I will get more and more accustomed to it.

The computer, Dell XPS 12, is fast as all get out. Booting up and opening a program takes very little time. I like that part of it. Although I thnk without the touch screen (that this computer does have) I would struggle a little getting around with the mouse. The swipe gestures with the touch screen seem much easier to me. The Metro interface is working for me. I read an article that simply said that the metro interface replaced the start button. When I look at it from that perspective, I can put tiles for my most used apps and programs on the interface, then leave the others in the app area. Those can be accessed easily by swiping up on the lower part of the screen while in the Metro interface and selecting the app icon.
Then I can see all the other apps and programs.

I am just trying to embrace the change!
Tim
;)
ETA: I also pinned a couple of programs to my start bar on my desktop, this makes it easier to launch some programs I use a lot and not have to switch to the Metro to do it.

Do not click it!!!!!!!!! There is nothing there for you but pain.....
Just access browser app (create icon on desktop) and let browser go to internet....
