On our Maiden Voyage The Glampette got her fair share of tours at gas stations driving back to CA from MI.

Two weeks ago we took another trip from CA to WA for my high school reunion. The first of two nights I didn't bring her because it was raining and parking space at the sports bar was minimal. But a lot of friends on Facebook and some who follow my blog asked if she was there.

The next morning a classmate's mom showed up in my folk's driveway. I just happened to be outside when she pulled up. LOL. Her daughter had come home the night before and told her all about the trailer. She lived just one block away and couldn't resist stopping by for a peek.

The second reunion night was at a riverfront resort with plenty of parking so I brought The Glampette along. LOL. After dinner and the slideshow some of the women asked if they could go see her. I spent the rest of the evening (second half of the gathering) out in the parking lot giving the grand tour over and over again until 11:00 pm. It was great. So fun to show off Fred's build and explain how I came up with the design.

On the way home I also gave a couple the grand tour at the Mount Shasta lookout on HWY 97. It was fun mostly because they had no idea a camping trailer could be built light enough for a 4 cylinder car to tow.

Unfortunately I had to stop for a midday, rest stop nap due to a migraine headache. When my alarm went off 45 minutes later I felt better and opened the trailer door. Immediately two couples sitting in the picnic area noticed. I noticed a second reaction when Kitai hopped out to stretch his legs  LOL the two women came over because they had to see inside. They were traveling in a huge motorhome. They were rather envious of the ease I must experience traveling with such a small rig. I didn't rub in that my gas milage is probably over triple theirs. I'm sure they guessed as much

I just returned from an all-church camping trip in Clatskanie, OR. We had 112 people attend. We get this big space every year at Perkins RV Park and all of us set up tents and RV's in a big field with a central gathering place. When I drove up with my new Pinecone, there were TONS of lookiloos and pointing. Of course everyone recognized my TV pulling the TD. Immediately after parking and unhooking the tours began.

Over the next 2 days, my 2 kids and I counted 25 tours we gave to couples, their t(w)eenage friends, and people from all walks of life. Many of them just couldn't believe there was a WHOLE BED in there, and a sound system, and and and. Secondly, when opening the galley there were gasps of "OMGosh you're kidding!! WOW!" Often times during the weekend I'd just sit down and someone would come up to me and say, "hey can I see your trailer?!" Of course I'm always game and hospitable!

Here was my little TD surrounded by tents and large 5th-wheelers, unique and simple in a sea of human shelters. It is not only simple, but a way to build a connection to others that otherwise wouldn't have happened. That makes the world a better place.

Putting the shoe on the other foot, I asked a guy at a car show about his teardrop and he said, "I don't know a damn thing about it, I just tow it to give my car the "look" that I want".

What ?!?! Then his friend started up a conversation about his granddad building a teardrop years ago, and we had a great discussion with him.

The best one we've had was when we were staying at the Wine Country RV Resort in Paso Robles, Ca for a wine festival weekend. They put us right in the middle of the Monaco motor coach club. It felt like the land of the giants. We had more people stop to visit us than all the motor coaches put together. When people asked if we were with the group we told them we were and decided to leave the coach behind and just bring the slide out.

We also get people asking how long it took for us to restore the trailer and when we tell them we built it from scratch they give us that "I don't believe it" look. We now carry a photo book with the build pictures.

at campmeeting this year (where nearly everyone knows me) I had many questions about the TD and a few tours.
Camping on cape cod for our anniversary this past weekend, we got many strange looks on the highway, no one seemed to think a Focus could be pulling a Tear drop and carrying two boats on the roof.
We got even more strange looks at the camp ground, the couple in the tent next to us seemed intrested until I had a guy walk by twice, when I said Hi he said he'd never seen camper that small before, when I told him it was a tear drop and I'de built it myself, he was interested. The guy from the tent made a disgusted face and never looked at us again, for three days....
The family in the big camper with the big truck to pull it on the other side of us couldn't believe how much stuff came out of the TD, two bikes, EZup, chairs, tables, grill, I think they thought is was like a clown car...
stopping at the bathroom on our way home, we met a couple, the wife told her husband she wants a Teardrop, I couldn't even give them a tour as the galley and bedroom were completely full. Her husband almost couldn't believe we had an airconditioner in it also. they are tent campers and she wants a real bed...

I spent the weekend, camping at Manzanita Lake, on Mt. Lassen and gave 7 tours on Saturday.
That's the most outside of a teardrop gathering that I've ever given in one day.
I gave out this website address to several; so, we may see some new members shortly.

Outside of a teardrop and tiny trailer gathering, what is the most number of tours anyone has given? That would be fun to see.
