I really don't know how heavy, it is a 5' wide. It is light enough for me to lift each end of it when I was putting the body on the current trailer. For our trip it was heavier than normal, I had two bikes, a heavy commercial grade EZ up, air conditioner, and other assorted gear in the tear. For the going part of the trip one kayak was also on the tear roof.
The other test I did was a quick twist of the wheel at faster speeds to see how the trailer would push the car around, it did some but not enough to make me think the car would be out of control in a panic lane change.

Not towing with a Honda fit, but something even smaller - and sportier. I tow my Little Guy with a MAZDA MX-5 Miata. I can tow at 60 all day long, up hill & down with the AC on. I've towed over Pacheco Pass & The Grapevine (each ~4,000') but not over Donner summit. As a test one time, with ambient temps >100, I towed over Pacheco Pass with the AC on and did not see a rise in temp. gauge. but I will tell you I'm no fool; I normally do not do that.

I think the determining factor is weight. How much does your teardrop weigh? How much weight to you add to it? How much weight are you carrying in the Fit, including passenger, clothing, etc.?

My Joey is 450# empty. I've probably added 100 lbs to it. In my car there is just me, a little clothing, and an ice chest in the trunk. I keep weight to a minimum.

I tow the Wazat's little brother, the Motomate with a 2009 Aveo. The car in the same class as the Fit and my trailer is 330lbs. It has been all over eastern Canada and the northeastern and midwestern US. The car is small and the trailer is tiny. I pack a roof-box, so the dogs have room in the back. It costs me a little bit of fuel economy. On flat land, there is nothing too it. When it gets hilly, I lose power. I cannot maintain 65mph/110km/h on the I-87 in New York or I-89 in Vermont. I've struggled to maintain 55mph/90km/h on Ontario Highway 17 west of Pembroke and on two lane roads in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and I was unsure I'd make it through the Kangamangus Pass, but I did with smoking brakes.

I honestly think that you would be crazy to tow a Wazat while carrying two adults and children if you value your transmission. I don't know what Minnesota geography is like. Since Minnesota is under Manitoba, I'm guesing prairie. You might be okay. It seems like an unnecessary risk. If I weren't upgrading the vehicle to an Equinox, I would be considering the Coachmen Clipper Express tent trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6HO06uvk_w Best of luck whatever you choose to do.

I know a guy in Maryland who tows his homebuilt with a Honda Fit. No issues, and he gets great gas mileage.

This Wazat is 13 hrs from you in Kapuskasing Ontario, looks to be in great shape and probably less than half the price of a new one. Per the ad it sleeps 2 adults & 2 children.

I've been towing my canoe trailer for a couple of years now with a 2012 Hyundai Accent, 6 speed automatic, 1.6 liter engine. Somewhere around 4000 trailer miles so far. It tows great through the Ozark mountains mostly and I got 29 mpg while towing it. The trailer and boats weighs around 350 lbs with 2 boats on it, but I carry over 100 pounds of other stuff in the car. One thing I think would change things would be if I was pulling something over 4.5 feet tall the wind resistance would drag it down at highway speed. That's why I was attempting to build something low to the ground that folds open when I get there. I hope to get back to that build this Spring. My point is towing 350 lbs with a Honda Fit should be no problem at all. I think 500 lbs would still be fine.

keep it inside the wind "shaddow" (no taller, no wider) of the TV, and build light (foamie) and you won't have trouble towing.
