So far the trailer has been working well. I used Sherwin Williams exterior latex - the Duration line for the final coats. Well, all over the top and front it has become stained with something reddish. It ran down and made reddish streaks. Must be birds? It wasn't under trees. These stains won't wash off so it's looking like a repaint.

Any ideas on how to keep the paint from staining? Wax? Automotive urethane paint? Other clear coats?

FYI
The red stains would not wash off with auto soap and I also tried simple green. Didn't touch it. I did end up getting the stains off. I used a medium stiff brush and comet. Took some scrubbing but they all came off of the sides and didn't hurt the paint at all. My paint has cured for a few months and I would be leary of fresh paint and this approach.

After I got her clean I used a Carnauba auto wax and waxed the whole trailer. Seems to work pretty well. Water now beads up just like on a car and should help prevent any future stains from being so hard to remove.

Could you tell if the staining was from foreign objects? Dread that my first thought was rust from screws bleeding up through.

It was either birds, don't know what they could have been eating though lol, or possibly dripping from a 2nd floor A/C. I think it was the birds. My luan is glued and stapled, not screwed. Didn't even have to fill in the staple dents as they didn't show through in testing. There was hardly any dent from the staple anyway. Worked out well.

Could have been birds. When they get into the mulberry tree here
they make a red mess of the truck. Do you have a lot of berries
local to you?

Not that I know of, no. Haven't noticed it anywhere else either, just on the trailer! The cars are kept inside though.... need to get shelter for the trailer now too.Comet is pretty aggressive stuff.... I am quite impressed with the latex paint. I was wondering about Future floor wax too. Haven't tried it but it might work well. Not sure how it would stand up to the elements though.
