FYI- Latest update on the cost of licensing a teardrop in the sate of Washington - was $36.75 for 2014 is now $41.75 for 2015 (which still includes the $3.00 septic dumping charge for a trailer with no toilet to dump)

I just registered a 1955 Benroy in California. With Title transfer, tax, PTI (Permanent Trailer Id) registration, assigning YOM (Year of Manufacture) plate. The total came to $86.00 The PTI is good for 5 years. The trailer is listed as a trailer/coach. This is a camper designation.

My 1947 KIT costs $40 every five years $20 PTI and $20 YOM. The Benroy will be the same.

Teardrops in California should have a 'BODY TYPE MODEL' as 'CMP' , not 'trailer/coach'. The DMV person who did your registration apparently didn't know what she was doing. I just had a designation on a trailer changed last month from coach to camp and got a PTI sticker for the plate that was on the trailer because I didn't want a trailer plate.

How to register a teardrop in California has been discussed on the board several times and you having been a member long enough that you should have known which is right and which is wrong.
:o

P.S. The possibility exist that you may have problems with your registration in the future.

Costs me $8 to register my utility trailer in Wyoming. The camper is a slide in, similar to one slid into a pickup truck. No need for a house trailer/travel trailer plate.
The biggest difference between a dreamer and a doer is the follow through.

Gage,

You are correct. I had to check a box on the form that said trailer/coach. I just looked at the title and the registration and body type is listed a CMP. It's all good.

Florida wasn't too bad at all. Took the HF manufacture statement to the tax office. Initial doc cost and 1st year tag was a total of I think $48. It will then be $14 per year afterwards. They gave us the choice of either a motorcycle size plate or regular, we did regular simply because it might look fishy to a cop in another state.

Wisconsin... zero dollars up to 3K lbs. No registration required. Gotta love the Cheesehead state!

Five years doesn't sound permanent

As close to permanent as you get in California. Before PTI, trailers had to be registered yearly. The yearly rate was more than the 5 year PTI. Your mileage may vary!

I just got back from my new teardrop's inspection and licensing.
The person who helped me said that in her opinion my last teardrop should be reclassified from travel trailer to teardrop since it has no sink or bathroom.
I shouldn't be charged the dump station fee since I can't use it for a trailer with no toilet.
I would have done it then but she said it would cost me a $10.00 fee and just to wait till next years renewal.
My fees today for the new one came to $138.75 which included the state patrol inspection fee & licensing.
