You may be right. I think thats how it works for the most part, but it also has a "Notify when found" feature. So say someone steals your trailer, I think you can tell the app to notify you whenever other Tile users come within range of it and it will tell you that location. Obviously if someone steals your trailer takes it home in the woods, chances are you'll never get a notification. But if youre in a city the chances may be greater.
