Hmmm... A little sidenote any teardrop manufacturer may find interesting:

This forum now has 5714 members!

I would imagine that represents a pretty good chunk of the marketplace for teardrops in the world.

Man, you guys are really nice and all have been very supportive. Thanks for all you folks taking time to post and read the thread. I will have to say that everytime I put in a request for service with Little Guy, I was literally called back within 5-10 minutes and this was before I even found out about the HUGE leaking problem. Everyone at Little Guy treated my smaller issues with just as much urgency and importance as they did when my hand literally fell through the floor while I was on the phone with the production manager.

My dealer has called me over and over is vowing no matter what, he will stand behind the teardrop if the factory decides not to. He is a very straight up guy and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again. My dealer is Colonel Deloach, the owner of Southern Georgia Teardrop Sales. Super nice guy and VERY concerned with making sure the customer is happy after the sale.

Why am I being so calm??? Well, as I told the dealer who said I was one of the calmest customers he has ever seen. I worked in customer service for over 14 years right on the front lines in a call center environment. I learned you get more accomplished by not cussing everyone out, flying off the handle, or dragging their name through the mud. My wife is a different story..while I work to keep a peaceful balance, she will rip your head off for selling her a bad product. She will take you to the mat until you beg for mercy. I have kept my cool and refrained from yelling or cussing anyone out. I almost literally broke down in tears when I peeled back the carpet to find the wormhole from hell. I was on the phone with the production manger and felt my voice cracking like I was going to just start whailing. I was telling Justin at Little Guy how I had lusted after the Little Guy Sport for almost a year and couldn't believe my dream turned into a nightmare with one washing.

Hopefully, the morning call from Little Guy will bring me to some type of resolve. All I know is the big camp out that I have been so excited about is in less than 5 weeks and I STILL have nowhere to sleep. Kind of just knocked all the wind out of my sails all at once.

Thanks for being a sounding board everyone. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST.

Let us just consider for a moment that everyone on this forum is a Tear Drop salesman weather you consider yourself this or not, the reality is everytime someone comes over to look at your TD you give them a pitch about this form of camping.

Alot of us know the challenges of building and generally have great respect for those chose to buy manufactured because we know that building one is not something a lot of people want or can do. Sandman's decision to purchase was as a result of the challenges of building. That said, one would expect that those who manufacture would have overcome most of the construction challenges and stand 100% behind their workmanship and design.

I personally think Little Guy puts together a sharp product at a reasonable price. My hope would be that when I talk about Tear Drops in general and maunufactures specifically that I don't have to tell of a sad story when I mention Little Guy. Unfortunate things happen but this could be an excellent example of customer satisfaction, the thing that builds loyalty.

Sandman, like everyone else, I really sympathize with you. A trailer should certainly be able to sit on the lot for a while without that kind of damage. That's what it is made to do after all!

I am especially concerned since I just purchased a 2008 4-wide platform Little Guy. It looks great, but as soon as I can, I am going out to squirt some water on it and have a real good look for leaks.

Let us know as soon as you know something about how Little Guy is going to fix this. 5000 emails and letters to the company could carry a lot of weight if you need it.

I also hope to find that they have truly fixed their construction problem. I for one would like some more detail about what the issue was with the '05 and '06 models. I know you have a lot on your plate right now, but maybe there are other Little Guy owners who are on this forum who have some info.

Best of luck with this. Sounds like you are handling it very well. Hang in there!

Sandman,
It seems to me that the manufacturer should do whatever it takes to make this right... Don't see how they'd stay in business very long not giving you more options than that... Hell, they already admitted that the earlier models have problems... It's not like this is something you've had for a long time, it's brand new to you and you're the first owner.
If they don't make it right or offer your money back this is gonna leave them with a major black eye.
If you ever make it to a gathering I'm in charge of, guess what?...
You've won yourself an award for staying with teardropping.
At the least, I'd get them to agree to, if you're not happy with the repair, you get your money back.

Some reference that you may find helpful

Postby Mook » Wed Sep 12, 2007 11:27 pm

http://www.mlmlaw.com/library/guides/ft ... /offer.htm

The link I posted gives some VERY detailed information regarding the Maguson-Moss Warranty act. Federal law stating product warranty.

Also, check your state's laws regarding Warranty Adjudication. You may be entitled to seek a "buyback" from the dealer / manufacturer.

Once they find out that you've done your homework, they will be ALOT more receptive to coming to an amicable settlement.

You're doing the right things by staying level headed and calm. Just don't take "we can't help" for an answer. Especially since a representitive from the company has already conceded that they willingly and knowingly used suspect or deficient materials in the contruction of your trailer.
The main thing to remember; is to keep the main thing, the main thing.

What I see in the pictures

Postby eamarquardt » Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:53 am

In the pictures of the damage it looks like they've used some sort of batting (probably fiberglas) for insulation. What a mistake. It soaks up water like a sponge and refuses to dry out. This makes the slightest leak a real problem over the long run. I'd say get your money and run like H@## because all of their trailers are probably built this way. The ONLY type of insulation to use is some sort of closed cell foam (not open cell which is like a kitchen sponge and will have the same problems as the batting)!

Then research the other trailers available and get a good one or build your own and get it exactly the way you want.

Good luck,

Gus
