General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

You are coming along wonderfully. I do have a suggestion. On the vent spars you may want those spars to go all the way across in one piece. It looks like they are split and the cross bracing intersects the spars.

If you have gone too far to replace the spars you might "sister" a second set along side the originals, especially if you are going to put a fan in.

Thanks ....I'll look at it when I get back home to see what I can do. The vent does not have a fan so the weight won't be as much. The wiring you see is for an overhead light. What you see is another example of how we plan, plan, and plan and sometimes things just happen. The spar was put there for the full sheets of Luan to come out right and then the vent was put in.

It seems that building a TTT involves alot of decisions that each affect the other one. I'm finding that out more and more. Haven't had to do any major redo's yet but have a long way to go.

I looked at the picture....The spars are one solid peice going across. We dadoed out the intersections on both peices and they are jointed together with glue and nails

It appears that they have lap jointed them. I'd think with the top skin glued on, it ought to be fine. Just my opinion. Thanks for posting your progress pics. The police car reminded me....I should have taken a pic of the cops at my house. I was spraying clear coat on my boat and someone called the cops because they thought I was cooking Meth. 2 cops and a dog showed up at the garage door and I had a bunch of clear catalyzed. I now notify all neighbors that I'm going to spray! Keep us posted on your progress. Doug

Looks like he posted before I could...

 My old eyes. Dadoed will surely be solid enough and a good idea too. 8) I will keep that one in my head for next time.

progress

Well we worked some more on the TTT, but its been to cold the last couple of days. Skinned the interior walls. Skinned the interior of the slide out opening. And then skinned the roof. We found that the hardest part was bending the 1/4 inch ply on the roof . Unbelievable how strong that ply is. But after a couple of manuevers we were able to get it laid down. Here are the pics.

Progress

Postby dploch » Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:01 am

Still working on the Castaway. I coated the main cabin with CPES and a day later put on the epoxy filler on all the seams, voids, and nail holes. That air nailer sure works good but filling all the holes was quite the job.
I stained the interior beadboard, primed the walls and ceiling, and then painted the ceiling. I also installed the overhead interior light.
My father started the work on the slide out frame. Easiest way we found was to work on the dimensions while it was in the opening. I think we are on our way togetting the slide out built. We purchased the rollers and have figured all the dimensions. As always I'm sure there will be some changes as we go along but feel pretty good about everything to this point. Here are some pictures......

castaway update

Postby dploch » Sun Feb 17, 2008 7:37 pm

Hello all! :) Well it's been awhile since I have had the opportunity to update the Castaway build due to weather and work but here goes. We laid the floor and then installed the cabinets and countertop. We have built the doors but not installed yet. I also was able to complete some of the electrical. I wallpapered, stained, varnished, and painted the Interior of the main cabin. Today we were able to complete a large part of the bedroom slide-out except for the opening skin. Here are some pictures.

WOW where have I been during this build?

Welcome neighbor.

Looks great. Love the slide out. I'll have to show that to Charles tonight.

I was going to suggest you come to our neck of the woods and check out our slide out but you are way past the looking stage.

At the rate you are going you should be able to join us South Central folks at a gathering soon.

PS. are you a Nacogdoches police officer? If so you probably know my neice's husband. John Allen.
