What's your ultimate tow vehicle?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Well, for ultimate, I guess it'd be a 1-ton dually of some sort.

As for ultimate for towing my existing trailer, I'd go with a Falcon Ranchero, with a transplanted 302 and a Tremec T56. But really, if I can tow this trailer with a Miata, I can tow it with just about anything!

I'd love to have an old Ford truck

But I'd settle for a new Subaru Outback

2015 Buick Electra Estate Wagon, the all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid luxury flagship high-performance electric longroof for 4 well-cosseted passengers. On each front fender there's an access hatch, highlighted with a platinum metallic glaze and the newly restored Tri-Color Buick logo. The driver side panel opens to the plug-in circuitry. The passenger side panel opens to reveal 4 custom carbon-fiber-and-cotton blend-umbrellas. Brushed aluminum and chrome moldings highlight the upper Sweepspear and befitting Buick's flagship, this new Estate Wagon is a "4-Holer." Woodgrain microveneers are available in several finishes. Power center-opening doors and power rear hatch-and-tailgate round out the exterior features.

since Ford isn't smart enough to sell a ranger in the US anymore, a restored Ford F-1.
My dream would be to find another 88 Ranger STX like I had for my college years, I still miss that truck...
I owned three Rangers, '85, '88, '99, the wife says I can have another pickup after the kids are gone, finding a small pickup will be almost impossible by then...

The opinions in this post are my own. My comments are directed to those that might like an alternative approach to those already espoused. There is the right way,the wrong way,the USMC way, your way, my way, and the highway.

nah, they talked about it, but the new "Ranger" in the rest of the world that we were going to get is more the size of a tundra or dakota, and almost the size of a F150. Not interesting to people who don't want a big truck and a potential sales drain from the F-150. https://www.google.com/search?q=2014+fo ... 57&bih=538 I'm sure the US version would have a bit more "muscle" in the design, but I'd be happy to drive one like this. (another stupid move by Ford, never giving the ranger real 4 door cab, Explorer sport trac instead, I dreamed of many ways to sneak a Mexican 4 door ranger in and swap the VIN, living in a state with no emissions (ME) it would have worked)
If they would make an escape/transit connect size with a bed they would have a best selling small truck again... Too bad, the Ranger was a sales hit and best seller for almost the whole run ('85-'11).
the new crash standards killed the design, but even after they gave up on the design (nothing new since '98) they couldn't kill the production due to sales. finally they pulled the plug (2011)after deciding the factory would make the new transit van (T-150, -250 etc) to replace the E series vans. Still waiting to see a transit van on the road...

Dreams are as dreams will be. We all have our own personal visions of the "ultimate" TV. Sum of us HAVE it already and others are jus dreamin of it. Mine is a 1965 VW Bug and I've towed no less than THREE different trailers with it.My first was a Little Guy... second was an Eriba,Puck ( German standie).. third is a Roly Nelson one off that "I" call the "Squeeze Box".

The Bug gits 19mpg whilst towin the first 2 trailers and I towed em MANY miles. From SoCal to Seattle,Washington with the Puck in tow (2571 miles thru the high sierras and down the coast along hwy 1 ) She's amazingly comfortable to drive long distance... and the looks and attention she draws as I travel.. PRICELESS !

That Cobra looks like a really good idea or maybe a '32 Ford highboy. My ride is an 05 PT Cruiser high output turbo convertible. I get 20 mpg towing which sure beats my 07 Dodge 1 ton megacab that we use to tow our 39 foot Montana 5th wheel.

Neither... He called it the "Shrunk Bunk". Let's see if I can remember how many trailers he has made and in what sequence...#1) The 1/2 Nelson, All Wood ( Woody) with the Sunbeem Toaster,Satellite Dish,Coffee Pot,etc..#2) The 1/4 Nelson( Originator of the 40 inch wide club). It measures 40 inches wide and 6 ft long. Painted Blue and Yellow( The Sweedish Flag colors). He has upgraded it with a Trolly Top... #3) Definitely a Roly Nelson ORIGINAL ! It was a mere 3ft by 3ft and simply attatched to the trunk of his Camry and sat on the ball of his tow hitch. ( No wheel) It telescoped out to the side to make a 6ft bed. (I think he called it the No Wheel Teardrop)...Then #4, The Shrunk Bunk ! It is 40 inches wide by 48 inches long and about 24 inches tall. The top of the trailer lifts UP and becomes nearly 4 ft tall ( A high/low ? )THEN, there is a swing out footwell on the front that when deployed makes fer a 7 ft bed. An engineering MARVEL ! But then, that is what HE does ! As fer build #5.. yup # FIVE! That is a carefully guarded SECRET ! TOP Secret even ! National Security kinda secret ! Roly says it will be ready fer the Teardrop Only campout at Lake Perris the last weekend of March 2014. If you are a FAN of the Roly Nelson type builds... you won't want to miss the unveiling of this newest, most daring, most unique,VERY interesting, AMAZING, incredible, unimaginable, engineering marvel, like NUTHIN you'll EVER see,TEARDROP TRAILER !

Trust me, you do not want yer friends to be telling YOU about it. YOU want to experience it FIRST HAND. Pictures will NOT do it justice ! If you ANYTHING about Roly... you KNOW that HIS builds are the best, strangest, most beautiful, functional, pieces of ART !

OH MY ! I hope I haven't put my life in danger by sayin anythin that I shouldn't have. ( He'll have me killed ! ) So by all means... COME TO LAKE PERRIS TO WHITNESS THE UNVEILING !( Pass the word ! )

If you don't see any of my posts after this... call the National Guard and have them check the desert fer a shallow grave... :worship:
