General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby mikeschn » Mon Aug 30, 2004 4:49 pm

Okay, forget the CAD... nothing like the hands on approach. This is my first attempt at packaging... I ended up pretty much with the same thing Chip has. Well Chip, I guess when it's really really windy and rains really really hard, we are all going to bug out and go home... :(

Anyways, here's the photos...

Will you add a hose to remove condensate while in use, then remove otherwise?

I'll rig a permanent hose... Less to try to remember... I am still trying to keep things procedurally simple!

Mike...

P.S. As it is, I have to remember to open the hatch to run the air... :(

Mike,
How will you put vents for the side air intakes for the condensing coils? If you put them right beside the unit, will the hot exhaust air just recirclulate back into the intake? Just a thought. :?

I think I missed the whole air circulation part. Can you explain how outside air comes in, where it enters a/c unit, where unit expels air, where hot air exits galley? It looks mighty neat.
--------------
off topic: I did stop in at the Big E on Fri. and saw the tear drops on display. Of course I lost the brochure I picked up (tough weekend), but they were dreamy. Very neat looking and top drawer construction.

During the week I also stopped and saw the "T@B T2 Microlite travel trailer... not too big, but tall enough to stand up in.

Arnereil,
Thought there was two seperate air flows, one that outside air enters ( the side of unit) and blows out over the hot condensing coil,(rear of unit) thus cooling the gas inside of the coil, this air then exits the unit as hot air. the inside air enters the lower (filter area) front of unit and blows out the vents on front top of unit over the evaporating coils as cold air. But I may be wrong, which why I raised the question

Right now this whole thing is very low tech. To use the a/c, you open the hatch!!!!! Both exhaust air and intake air come from the galley area. I'm not too worried about the warm air being sucked back into the intake... It's almost the same situation as mounting it in a window!!!

That piece of gray foam represents a curved wall. I can either do that, or make the wall straight across, and let Michelle use that area for canned goods. Then I could extend the inside another 6" for cabin storage.

P.S. The air that comes in the front of the a/c is recirculated back into the cabin. The air that comes in the sides of the a/c is exhausted out the back as hot air.

Opening the hatch would work. Watch out for raccoons in the middle of the night.

Could have a small hatch in the big one, higher up.

Yep, still working out all the details. I lost all my food one night backpacking in the UP due to raccoons. I don't want that to happen again. :(

Anyways, I did notice that no one replied... But here it is again since we are talking a little bit about a/c right now...

A/c vs full-size modeling

Postby McTeardrops » Mon Aug 30, 2004 7:20 pm

Mike

I'm mixing the CAD approach with full-size modeling. I've got three balls in the air; hatch hinge location, interior shelves and cabinets, and the A/C, and all in the back third of a 4 x 8. I played around some with the unit on my floorjack in the galley well, then moved a box up and down on autosketch; it looks like that part of installation will work OK. My Kenmore unit came with just a piece of styrofoam seperating cold air supply and return: evidently that split isn't all that critical. I haven't pulled it far enough apart yet to detiremine if the controls can be relocated remote from the unit. Outside air movement across the coils is by gravity alone (hot air rises) but it seems that all the TD designers expect it to move sideways!... I'll leave room to add a fan.

By the way, I just caught a sale on a fantasticvent, and ordered one. Can anyone tell me why a simple DC fan and cover costs twice as much as A/C?
