General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

A Little Progress...

Postby The R/C Man » Wed Jun 15, 2005 11:30 pm

Well I got the doors framed and insulated. Tomorrow I am going to make a trip to the hardware store (that's becoming the norm) to get some wire. The goal will be to have everything wired this weekend so I can start the interior next week....

Tears are all about amenities right? Here is one, an amenity that is. :D

I picked this up at Circuit City today for $199. It plays music CDs as well as DVDs. It has audio outs to send the signal to an amplifier. Can't party without tunes.... :wine:

So Greg--you gonna wire for speakers???

I was planniing on running speaker wires from the rear cabin cabinet, three sets, through the roof. One set is for the cabin, and one set each for the left and right EXTERIORS of the TD, for exterior speakers. (A simple A/B/C box will select which speakers to activate.)

It's probably redundant putting lines on BOTH sides of the TD, but who the heck knows how you're going to park and where you're going to want to throw the tunes?

I'll worry about the actual device later--and although Sunday is Father's Day, I doubt my wife is cooking up something as cool as YOU just bought!

Ira,

Yap! But I am only going to install two in the cabin and maybe two in the galley. I am still debating on that one....

I had to jump on that because of the price. It doesn't have the best resolution or contrast but it will be spending most of its time just looking good in the tear anyway. How much time do people actually watch TV when they are having fun camping? I might run a flick through on a colder night or if it rains.... :D

I plan on having my laptop with me and it has a DVD player/CDRW combo and the quality of it is OK for me to watch DVDs. The sound stinks, but that can be solved with external speakers. Plus if there is internet access, I can keep up with the T&TTT!!!!

I thought about that also. One thing I don't like is leaving my $2000 laptop in my car or tear at a camp site. You never know who could stop by and relieve you of your toy.... Besides if I have the trailer running on DC then the laptop is only good for one movie before the batteries are about dead. The LCD TV/DVD player is going to be hard mounted to the cabin so theft will be more difficult... Just some thoughts....

If you mount the speaker on a wall that shares the inside and outside, you might be able to get away with only one pair of speakers. The sound will come out of both sides of the speaker regardless wether it is the front or rear.

I was thinking of thin flush mount speakers for inside, and whatever's appropriate for exterior use, flush mount, for outside. I really don't want to cut into the wall for this. If I DID do that, you could definitely get away with one pair.

Update...

Postby The R/C Man » Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:06 pm

Well slowly but surely it is coming along. I managed to get the rear hatch framing done.

I also filled the door frame corners and trimmed them up.

WILL YOU SLOW DOWN, GREG!? YOU'RE MAKING US ALL LOOK LIKE MORONS!!!

By the way, that AC looks BIG. Many it's just the photo, but how many BTUs? Also, what are you doing your interior skins with?

metoady,

Thanks! I used 3/4" ply for the side pieces and the same 1"x1 1/2" pine that I have used for the rest of the framing.

IraRat,

I cheated because I had the week off..... :D

The A/C is only 5000BTU's. It really isn't that big but the trailer is only 46" across so it appears much larger...

IraRat,

Oooops... I missed the interior skin question. Sorry... Anyway, I am just planning to use 1/8" wall paneling. It bends well and there is a variety of colors to choose from....

I was WONDERING why you didn't answer that one.

But that's not going to work for your interior roof.
