I used a Bafang mid drive kit from Amazon, it has everything you need but the battery. Bafang is one of the best DIY kits, IMHO. I like the mid drive motor as it is better on hills than a hub drive but has a lower top end. It's more expensive too. 750W is good for us and I wouldn't go any lower. We have a 20-30 mile range, depending on how many hills there are and how hard you peddle.
Bafang Mid Drive

I used a 48V, 13ah battery as that was the best bang for the buck 2 years ago. I wouldn't go any lower than 48V and I would look at a 52V battery for a higher top end. I can go 30 mph, down hill and pedaling hard.

Here is what I used
Front wheel drive. Don't use this if you plan to use bike for offroad. A Rear or Mid-drive would be better off-road.

Great for normal bike use and balanced well when battery is on a luggage rack on the back with the heavy motor hub up front..

Battery: need to put in a case on luggage tack.

7 Styles of 48V Lithium ion... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09D7273KC?re ... b_ap_share

Two days ago I got a flat tire about 1.5 miles from home on the way back from a 12 mile trip. Had to walk it after the flat. So today I installed some wider (and taller sidewalls) heavy duty tires along with some premium heavy duty inner tubes that I can run at 55lbs air pressure. I think the rear tube pinched when I jumped up on a curb doing about 15 mph. I heard the metal on the Rim bang.

In any case, added better tires and tubes along with a pump and spare tube to replace on the road if needed.

Also added the equivalent of a tank bag on the top bar for the phone, wallet and etc. and improved brake pads so I can stop much quicker. This does not have disk brakes and the pads were old as the bike. Did not stop quick enough for me when going 30mph. Wish it had disk brakes, but used what I had.

Got it dialed in and working well..nice ebike for having only $700 in it now since I already had the bike.

I have also ordered some torque bars for both ebikes. These 1000W motors have alot of torque and I am concerned the axle may spin in the slot as there is not alot of good hard metal to prevent that in the fork slots. Cheap solution and I can forget about it.

Put slime in your tubes or your gonna get more flats. I resisted it because I don't like fix-a-flat type stuff but flats went from a ton to none after I added it to both bikes.

Slime Linky

P.S. The Maxxis Holy Roller is a great front tire for dirt and road (if you have 26" rims).

Thanks for the tip. I ordered some and will add to both bikes. I hate getting flats and it seems it doesn't take much for bike tires.

Can you get this one in your neck of the woods?
It outruns everything else I've ever tried by a country mile. Fixing the kids bikes was a weekly ritual before the local auto parts store started stocking this one.

Sounds like Slime, but blue instead of green. Maybe recipe is different, but same idea.

I can't complain about slime, I've had zero flats since I added it to my tubes.

I added the torque bar to the E-bikes today. This should mitigate any bad affects of the rotational torque from the 1000W motor on the axle slots in the forks. That's the thought anyway.

I also figured put how to enable the Cruise Control feature via the LCD advanced setup and then engage it when up to speed. The manual that comes with the kit is worthless. Cruise Control works great, nonetheless.

Now you did it! Lol

Actually, I have been eyeing some street legal versions for various travel related reasons. Just not ready to shell out the $ yet.. but I can see that in a few years.

Still keeping the "gasers" in the meantime.

I woke in my teardrop at Pekina Reservoir. I had a brilliant nights sleep. Nice spot. The council dstrict this dam lies in has decided to be "RV friendly" and it shows.
Plenty of free campsites. Some signposted no time limit! I had breakfast then continued north. Made it to Blinman in the northern Flinders Ranges. Its an old mining town. Met up with friends for dinner at the pub. Now camped behind the pub.$10 gets a campsite for the.night with s key to the toilets and showers. It pretty good, except the whole town is powered by diesel generator. Its not super loud, but I can hear it.
Mine tour in the morning, then I'll start the journey home.
Info for slowcowboy. Its 200 miles from home to this old Outback in imining town. $140 worth of diesel.
Also for slow: I
I'm starting to see why your posts sometimes seen a little disjointed. What a PITA trying to post from my phone.
