I like your thought process.;) Take some work and thought but that got us past the stone age.

Suns not out every day nor shines 24 hrs.

Thermostat to shut the heat and turn it on. Hard to turn the sun off but on solar collectors they can have motor controlled shutter shades that block or partially block but it's getting more complicated now.

A 12vdc fridge is a energy hog. Solar panel charging a battery and running a DC fridge has been done (and more power to the people who do use it and go green). We want a new route, the refrigerant heated by the sun in a heat transfer. Heat can be stored but again getting complicated.

Solar collector not solar panel. There are concentrated and non concentrated collectors. I don't know what temp the ammonia splits at but thats available. A concentrated solar oven will cook a roast, if the ammonia was in there in a bulb and heated it would work but now to make it 24/7's and thermostatically control it  Dog

Would be great to start with a solar Igloo ... collector would theoretically cool it enough to get through the Dark hours... that and some good insulation...
Problem with all this green stuff is people ... nobody wants to be interrupted or lose services for even an instant ... Multiple backups eliminate the affordable simplicity of the original idea ... Green means sometimes having to ''rough it"...

An efficient box is a good start on the project. There are more advanced collectors coming out all the time. There is a parabolic one that reflects and focuses the suns energy on a thin rod at the focal point, superheats an oil that flows thru the rod. That can do it
Green is sacrifices and takes some thought at what to own, power, when. I was off grid 18 months living in a camper (small one) I had 1 deep cycle battery and a 10 watt panel. Even in the rain forest of Wa state my batt stayed charged and ran what I needed. I had a generator if I needed 110 to run tools but I did fine. No electric bill :applause: Dog

Mike,
Have you had the chance to work on the Generic ET any more?

You guys have been waiting for updates to the ET. I have too... Finally today we were able to get started.

The first item on the agenda is to get the main body insulated and skinned. We got most of the body insulated, and the first two sheets of skin on.

Tomorrow we hope to get the remaining top skins on...

Not yet... If we can get 2 more sheets on tomorrow, then we'll have an estimated 7 weekends of work left.

We've barely even started the hatch, and we might have to start the galley over due to a redesign.

But it felt good to make some progress today.

Thanks Gary,

Been a long time in coming... we don't have mild weather like you guys do in MO.

Who's the big guy in your avatar?

Mike, this is the first time I really got a good look at the build, SWEET! You should set it plans like the gen. benroy, I sure would consider that as a second build. Looks great bro! 8)

Mike
that's Wendell the wiener dog. Showed up on our porch half starved last winter. We've had him out camping twice and he does great except if we let him off the leash he's gone. Loves to run.
