Teardrops at Hot August Nights

Postby Keith » Mon Aug 13, 2007 9:12 pm

We went to Hot August Nights in Reno this past weekend. There were a couple of interesting teardrop trailers there. The larger one is called, "Aero Madera" and is built in Grass Valley.

The following is the information on the "Aero Madera"; Expertly handcrafted from the finest woods available, in the style of old world yachts, Finely appointed and detailed, with the Serious collector in mind. Limited numbers production. Contact Joseph Knoblock (530)271-2230 or William Landivar (530)889-1342 12731 Loma Rica Dr -B, Grass Valley, CA 95945.

I might park that in my living room, but I don't think I'd use it to go camping... might make it dirty.....

We either caught the beginning or the tail of Hot August Nights when we were coming home from IRG last year. Our teardrop turned a lot of heads when I was driving down the strip. We got into town late so it was too late by the time we ate dinner, we didn't get to check out the cars.

Keith... You're right, that's a pretty awesome tear. The mahogany and finishing is superb. :applause:

Unfortunately there were too many people around to get a good picture of the entire trailer. They didn't have any information on the price either. I was only able to grab a post card listing the builder information. They did a lot of nice finish work on it but it was laid out a little strange. It looked like it was at least six feet wide. It looked like you could sleep in it either length ways or sideways in it. I didn't see the builders around so I didn't get a chance to ask any questions about it.

Keith...that is one killer tear!!! without a doubt...but did you see any others up there running around? I would think that would be a good opportunity for some of the builders to show off what they have to what could be a potential market. I didn't go this year, and I didn't go to the Tahoe Concours Boat show...but saw plenty of boats being dragged up the hill...lots of rods making the run...but no one pulling a tear. doug

Doug,

Your right about HAN would be a good venue to show Teardrops but it dosen't happen.
I have been in Reno since 1992 and have seen VERY few Teardrops during HAN week. Other Rod shows seem to get a lot more than Reno and I'm not sure why.

Hi Doug,

The only other teardrop trailer I saw up there was the small one that was at the Atlantis. I'm not sure that you would classify it as a teardrop because you can't sleep in it. We only saw the one boat that was pulling out when we stopped at the rest stop at Donner Summit.

Ed, I'm with you we have only seen a few at HAN also. I think it might have to do with the waiting list to enter the show. I hear that there is a four or five year waiting list just to enter.

Keith,

Your waiting list comment got me to wake up and actually think about this a little more.

Because the number of official entries are limited I think we get a larger % of "trailer queen" cars on display than many other shows. Most people are not going to trailer their car and then trailer the Teardrop also - I wouldn't think so anyway. The other thing that may impact the no Teardrops is Reno's short supply of places to park with a Teardrop - there are not a lot of RV parks and the cost makes a cheap motel room look good.

Just some more thoughts.

that is Unbelieveable ........and Beautiful,... BUT, surely they never ment to use it for real right ??? one little chip from a gravel would be enough to cause the owner to have a Breakdown. ...

Just found this thread.
I'm the new owner of Aero Madera.
Apparently, I'm the first owner, there than the guys (Joe and Bill) who built it.

I took it for a drive, from San Francisco to San Diego and back. Camped for a week, on the beach, and at the houses of friends.
