Ross,

Welcome back and you have done one great job on that tear. I like the total woodie work. Wish my wood working skills were 1/4 as good as your's and Steve's.

Hey Ross, That's a great looking woody! How will you trim the roof/wall seam? Can you round it and cover with bias cut 'glass? I'm jealous...a spray booth? Wow!
I'm thinking, after all this time stripping, that I should have done the roof in ply. Actually,I did! Then covered it! I'm almost done with the stripping now, 10" to go. The problem is that I'm a detail nut...er...procrastinator...um...goofball! I'm always thinking...Guess I should just get it done! AND STOP THINKING!!! :nike:
I'll be on the 'glass this weekend. It will be worth it when it's done, though.
Again, Really nice work!
Blessings,Steve

Steve,

I wanted to a complete round over, where the roof and walls meet, but instead I am using aluminum trim I got from R.W. Johnson. I have T moulding around the doors and there will be aluminum trim around the bottom of the sides. The aluminum trim will give our teardrop a little pop, just like the inlay you set into the sides of yours.

Are you going to attend Mystic in July? I would love to see your masterpiece in person.

Thanks for all your help and support :notworthy:, Ross

Thanks Buford,

I've had saw dust flowing thru my veins since I was in Junior High :buzzsaw:

Very pretty. Nice glossy finish too! You've done an excellent job. Will you be bringing that to Edisto Beach for us to check out?

BTW, how long does that fiberglass finish stay nice and glossy like that?

Ross, The plan is to go to Mystic. I have a site reserved, so I'm committed. I am really looking forward to meeting you too. I thought that I saw Joseph listed somewhere as an attender also?
Keep up the great work, see you there!

Mike,

I would love to go to Edisto, but we will be at the Mystic gathering that same weekend. Will you be cutting thru North Carolina on your Edisto trip? If so, where? We live in the most North Western corner of NC. About an hour north of Boone. I also go to Charlotte once a week for business, maybe we could catch up somewhere.

I'm a first timer with epoxy and glass, but the last coat of epoxy gets sanded down smooth and then I applied several coats of gloss Spar Varnish. It should stay shiney for quite a while 8) .

Ross,

My experience with wood boats, epoxy and varnish is that there is no such thing as real 'UV protection' in varnish - at best it's the equivalent of a sun protection factor of 1, when what you need is 30.

To stop the epoxy from yellowing with time (several years), I'd keep it covered when not in use - which'll do some good to the varnish too.

It's good to hear from you Andrew.

You are right about the yellowing of the spar varnish. Also the sun will bleach out the stain I used on the teardrop as well. I do plan on keeping it covered when not in use.

By the way, I have been working on the interior beaded cabinet face frames. The main priority is to get it dried in.
