Peterson Automotive Museum Vacationland USA

Postby San Diegan » Thu Feb 24, 2005 12:19 am

The Peterson Automotive Museum is presenting an exhibit entitled Vacationland USA. There is a description and preview at http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?docid=1032 If you work your way to the bottom of the page, there is a CLICK TO VIEW PHOTOS link that will take you to some images including a teardrop. Inexplicably, the 1950 Kamp Master has an extraordinary large hatch and a screen door under the hatch. I don't think I would set out to build one like this, but a mint or restored version would be an eye-catcher.

I think I posted these before. I went in January and got some pictures. I didn't have my better digital camera and that place is really hard to take pictures in because of the lighting.

I'm going to go back again since they now have the musclecar exhibit going and I'll take better pictures.

Nick,

Not teardrop related, but the French Curves images in the link are just stunning. I didn't realize you had been there just last month and posted. I think a road trip up to LA might be my own near future. I am sorry I missed the French Curves, but any trip there is fascinating.

Thanks for the link.

Tom,

I love the Petersen museum. I've been there probably 10 times. I've even been in the basement a couple times to see the treasures stored away.

Did you ever go to the Deer Park museum here before it closed? It was always an interesting place to visit.

Also, have you been down to Simpson's Nursery in Jamul? They have a cool little museum and several trailers inlcuding teardrops. I have pitcures on my site.

If anyone plans a road trip to LA, drive north to Sylmar. The Nethercut Collection is open to the public ans houses an astonishing collection of automobiles. Although its not a Teardrop, there is a 1936 Pierce-Arrow Travelodge trailer there.

I was about to say that the Alcoa and Fireball look very similar to ones I've seen at the Iowa Boys lot up in the valley. Then I took a look at http://www.iowaboys.com/salelist.htm and found that they are in fact the same!

I love that Alcoa. It is really roomy inside, standing height and all with a kitchen, small dinette, bed and storage.
