Axel is here

Postby tbow » Fri May 28, 2004 9:00 pm

Its here now, but I'm not sure how to mount it there wasn't any paper work with it and I figured eveyone here could help me with it. So here is my ?'s. first should it be welded to the frame or bolted? next which direction do the arm's point to the front or back? And when mounting it do I use for placement of the axel a distance from the center of the axel or from the center of the hub?

Hey tbow,

Never weld your axle directly to the trailer. What if you have to replace it?

I can only talk about the dexter torsion axle that I have on mine, but I welded the angle brackets to the frame, and bolted the axle to the brackets.

As far as the placement, use the Bill Adkins formula that is available on Larry's outbackteardrop page...

It's in the paragraph that starts with the word Axle.

Hope that helps...

Oh yes, on Larry's page of afterthoughts he shows some pictures of his axle and shackle.

That should help you with your axle orientation. I think Larry also has a 2d drawing somewhere on his website, but I can't find it right now.
