What is the point of lurking around the forum "Hidden" and then post and your screen name appears any way . I mean like does it really matter, some hush hush top secret mission, your on the membership lists anyway. Witness protection program rules? IRS problem? Divorce Lawyer or Bill collector problems? . What is the point, I am not quite getting it here.

I made a similar suggestion awhile back, as I like to know where a person is from, and I also, in some instances, would like to know a person's age. After my posting was removed I took down my website and email addresses and went purely anonymous. I was upfront and it didn't pay off.

Someone took your posting down on this forum? Well that ain't right. It is nice to see where people are from. I feel that if a person (not you) have some thing to hide, who would know it anyway?. Screen names are pretty anonymous anyway in most cases, I could be your neighbor and post that I am from Guam. Who would care anyway?. I see your point though

Yes, I like to get to know my friends and a little about them. Maybe sometime I might be in their area and would like to give a call. I motorcycled for years and we actually had a business card that we gave to other bikers. If I know a bit about someone, especially age, occupation and other interests, it helps with some of the problems they may post. I have a problem with the behind the scenes posts also, but unless it changes, I guess that I'll have to be one of them.

Woody - you really should take your email addy out of your sig tho or at the very least change the @ to AT. Bots go thru these forums all the time looking for addresses to scavange. They can't recognize an addy with AT in it tho. It might save you getting any more junk email than you usual allotment.

I realize that, Thanks. I get alot of garbage on my regular email address from nigeria and the discount viagra poeple. Not that I need it anyway .Not much on this one, knock on wood (No pun intended, ok it was a pun) I will change this one however

I ended up removing my email and website address because of all the spam I was getting. I have noticed a big decrease in junk since then.
As far as people going into hidden mode... Maybe they are just being cautious or don't want someone to know they are online.
Fact... There are some real creeps out there, so I don't fault anyone who wants to hide.
Mike and I were screening new members for a while there after that worldwide attack on phpbb websites with links posted in messages about going to adult websites. We took that action on the boat building website also and still have that requirement in effect.
(We caught the attack early enough here, but several posts actually made it through on the boat building site)

And hey Woody, I have my reasons for being hidden. I don't always post when I'm in here and there are some that don't have a need to know that I am in here. The right people know even when I don't post.

Anon 1, who are you? and you say you live in the USA? Maybe you should clean up the way you sign a post before jumping someone else. My intent was not to offend anyone. I was just curious why anyone would be hidden. I can only speak for myself on this matter, I could careless if anybody noticed "ME" lurking on the board or any other board. In order to add crediblity to some of the posts, it would be nice to have an "Idea" of whom your speaking with at times, especially someone with a common interest. I guess everyone has there reasons and like I said "I was just curious".

Hey Woody, no offense taken. If I didn't want anyone to know who I was, then I to would just use a handle and not state where I lived or anything else about me, you know like anon 1 does. Because of a couple of jerks on this board, is why I kind of stick to the 'General Discussion' part of this board, trying not to cause to much trouble And no anon 1, I didn't call you a jerk. They know who they are.
