My first TEARDROP camping trip!!!

Postby Jan Keller » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:41 pm

Last week, thursday through sunday, I went to Bodega Dunes, a state park, on the coast of CA!!! The tear pulled behind my Toyota Tacoma,
like a dream!!! I managed, the hair pinned turns, and even backed up into the campsite, without hitting anything!! My first night, was heaven,
filled with stars, the sound of surf, and barking seals....After that, the
the big RV's pulled in
filled with children and bikes, and at night surfers howling
at the moon, till 2am...Wolfie growled all night, or was it me!!! Oh well,
it was the first weekend of beautiful weather, all winter, 75 degrees at the
beach on friday!!!!
Everyone, was right about the reaction, from everyone!! People really love, teardrops, and so do I!! The best part of the trip, was rolling into,
Calistoga(my town), and passed a long line of bikers, parked along the
sidewalk. One of the bikers, a guy with a white beard, saw my tear, and yelled out, "A teardropper", all the bikers turned, and gave me the thumbs
up!!! Yahoo!!! That was so cool!!!

Jan,

Very happy to hear that you enjoyed your first trip. The positive feedback from the bikers sounds awesome.
:applause:
I had a very similar experience at the campground on my first night out with the TD. I was really enjoying myself until some 5th-wheel trailer owner fired up a mega-huge generator. The sound was very annoying! :x Next, I was expecting him to whip out a chainsaw and start cutting down the trees and then paving over the plants. He didn't act like he wanted to be surrounded by nature.

Kids sounds would've been much more tolerable.

Don't "should" on yourself, there are plenty of others who will "should" on you for no reason. Accept what you did and move on. Life is too short.

For years, our favorite place to camp was Mammoth Cave National Park. Then a few years ago, they ripped out all of the electrical hookups and tripled the rates. The first time we went camping there after the hookups had been taken out it was a huge friggin cacophony of every possible kind of generator ever known to man. I was stunned! We didn't actually get any peace and quiet until we got back home.

I said to myself that if they don't want us there they could just ask politely. But HEY, we can take a hint. We haven't been back.

Fortunately, Tennessee's state parks still have hookups and when the big Class A jobs come in, they don't have to run the generators.

Kids, on the other hand, sure do make a lot of noise, but it's cool noise. I like that noise a lot. Maybe it's because my wife and I don't have any kids and we wish we did. So I really give kids lots of leeway. They can just make all the noise they want.

Check with park personnel and see if they will let you go to tent area away from generators because you camp in a small hard tent.

Jan,

Great to hear that everything is running great in your Tear. Our Camp-inn is inthe beginning stages of construction :) With our pickup date set for early April. :D :D

It's great to hear everyone who gets a Camp-inn saying how wonderfully they tow because our first trip (after the 1500 miles home) is over the Rockies to the West Coast of Canada for two weeks.

Before our first month is up we will have pulled ours 2700 miles

Happy Camp-inn

generator noises

Postby ceebe » Thu Mar 17, 2005 9:13 pm

Somebody told me.... I wouldn't know about this first hand......but a quick visit with a crescent wrench on the oil drain plug of the offending generator makes them get real quiet

Hi Jan,
Glad to hear you had a successful first trip. Sounds like the first night was terrific. I think we have to just treasure the times we manage to outmanuver the crowds.

Cheers :D

Yeah, after it gets' REALLY, REALLY, REALLY noisy .... THEN it get's real quiet! It would be a good idea to NOT be the only other person in the campground either.

Jan,

Don't forget to print some cards and keep a few handy in the galley. When I stop in rest areas for a break I open the galley for a snack and people usually come around with questions. I have my web site and email address printed on them. I've had folks as far away as Canada down here in California that took pics of the trailer and myself and after their getting home emailed the pics.
