Here's a link for the rainfall totals here in the desert southwest (Tucson & Phoenix). Zoom in and watch the monsoon in progress from different reporting stations in Arizona. Rainy season here is from July to September, more or less. Our first rain of the season was yesterday afternoon! If you travel through this area, watch out for dust storms on the interstate.

A rusty piece of chain with a single grab hook will work well as a weather station also.

When you get to your campsite, hang it over a handy branch and hook it to itself.

Following is the interpretation of its indicators:

If the chain is warm and dry, it's a nice day.
If the chain is hot to the touch, stay in the shade.
If the chain is wet, it's raining.
If the chain is cold, put on a jacket.
If the chain has white dust on it, it's snowing.
If the chain is vertical, the wind is calm.
If the chain is horizontal, it's breezy.
If the chain is GONE, it's windy.
