New member introduction

Postby BrianStaceyErnst » Thu Apr 15, 2004 10:49 pm

Hello to all,

My wife Stacey and I are the proud owners of a 1948 Cub Sports Trailer. We have invested alot of time here over the last few weeks on the first stages of the restoration and customization.
Please feel free to view our web fotos of the trailer as well as the other albums in our posting URL. There are several links to the TearJerkers Mystic gatherings from the last two years. Enjoy them and feel free to e-mail or post any info or questions you have.

best regards,

Brian

Little Scotty?

Hi Brian!

I like your picture site. I was curious about a trailer which I am assuming is yours. It's picture 20 and 24 on the Mystic 2003 album that is pulled by the silver Caravan. It looks very interesting and along the lines of something I would like to build. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nice restoration work Brian. Stripping off the old paint is a hard job but it looks to have been well worth it. I really like the tow vehcile used in pics #7 and #8.

Nice job. Ross

The Trailer you see behind my Dodge Caravan was a loaned trailer from one of the group members who actually owns three of them. It is a 1960's vintage SERRO SCOTTY. We used it that year in hopes to get the, 'batman blue' 48 Cub in the album. Having spent the previous year in a tent, we were itching to bring a trailer of SOME kind to the rally that year.

They are quite nice inside with a small galley bed, and dining area. very comfortable and not that difficult to tow. I have seen several of them on E-Bay and they are easy to work on and restoration is not that much of a problem as there are as many parts trailers available as there are restorable units. There is a SCOTTY club on Yahoo where you can get alot of info on them.

Good luck!

Cub Frame

Postby BrianStaceyErnst » Sun Apr 18, 2004 12:10 am

I currently have the Cub up on Jack Stands now running the light wiring. So it will be easy to take pictures of the frame. However, if you look in the picture album (posted earlier), you will see the original manufacturer's images of the trailer frame design. It is in the brochure of the trailer.

I will post more images, of the frame and more tomorrow evening after I am done with the lights.

regards,

Brian

Yep I show that. Wanted to know the type of frame they used. Angle or square? See I'm of the belief that most of these tears these days are built on chassis that are over kill. Not needed. There is discussion on another board about using wood frames and my belief is that you could do that same thing today. No one has done it but I dont' see a problem with it.

Looking forward to seeing the pic's thanks.

frame details

Postby BrianStaceyErnst » Sun Apr 18, 2004 8:08 am

The frame is 1 1/2 inch angle steel, welded at the joints. The draw tongue is 2 1/2 inch square tubing that is bolted at the front cross member and then again at the the rear, ahead of the axle. I should have the pictures up tonight.

Additionally there is more of the angel steel for the door and window frames as well as extending into the area under the rear galley from the sleeping compartment to reinforce the walls and counter.

Cub Frame pictures posted.

Postby BrianStaceyErnst » Sun Apr 18, 2004 9:16 pm

OK.. phew.. almost forgot to get the Cub's frame pics before retireing for the evening.

I spent the day assembling my 1947 Kit with my friend and Co-owner. It went from a frame with no hubs to a completely sided trailer with door cutouts. We used the original galley door to finish the shape to allow us to tarp it before the rain came. Those pictures will be up shortly in the Kit Album.

I'd love some feedback on that as well.

best regards,

Brian

Thanks Steve, worked for almost a year trading back and forth on Ebay to get that set with tires for that cheap. I love how they turned out and their color was the basis of the rest of the trailer.
