I found a deal on MRE's.

Postby Darren » Sat Mar 13, 2010 1:01 pm

Not everyone likes them but for some reason I do. :? I got 2 cases for $89.98, with shipping it came to $104.96. That's 1 case of the "A" menu and 1 of the "B" menu, 24 meals all together. The ones I received were made in November of 2008 so they should last many years if stored properly.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, know, or get any kickback from these guys. Just found a deal so I thought I'd share it with you all.

I would rather just buy the entrees instead of the complete meals but where I was getting them from stopped doing that. There is a lot of extra stuff in the meals that I'd never use. These cases are going in the "bomb shelter".

DO NOT ROUGH HANDLE WHEN FROZEN.

Pholosophy from the side of a MRE box.

I've never had one, but I'm told they're tasty when you're hungry and miles away from the nearest Olive Garden. What are contained in Menu A and Menu B? I didn't see that in the rundown on the web site.

All you ever wanted to know about MRE's and then some. Scroll down to MRE contents and you can see the 2008 menu.

They helped me develop a love for Tabasco 20 years ago. Hopefully, they have gotten better since then.

Hey Darren,

Just got back from both Kunsan and Osan Air Bases in Korea, while there, the AFN News reported that the dairy shake mix was recalled, and should not be used.

The news did not provided dates or markings, just simply said, if you had any leftover to toss it out. May want to research it some more.

EDIT - Found this link: http://www.fieldandstream.com/forums/an ... -shake-mix

There are various types and sources for MRE's, military, civilian and foreign. A good over view http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/buying-mres.html
I was thinking about buying some for emergency purposes, we do not have much on hand.

I keep a few of the MRE's around for emergency's in the trunk of the car and in my truck....you never know, I've also stuck a couple in the teardrop in case I don't want to go home just yet and/or need food for another day or two. Never out of  though, that would be a crisis :frightened:

I have had some of them over the years. First time was on a hike with my doctor back about 1999. I find them rather tasty and don't see what the fuss is about. There is a whole mess of trash to get rid of and even more if you use the heaters. But I have found they are ok even when not heated. I fear that If I get a bunch of them, then I will eat them all up. I have little will power when there is food on the home shelves.

I agree with keeping them on hand...if not MRE, at least some packaged easy to prepare item. A can of spam and crackers or a mountain house meal has saved my bacon a time of two. MREs taste fine...but you can't live on them....let's just say I have experienced "shock and awe" having tried eat MREs over an extended time...

I feel for civilian use it would be better ( at least for me ) to have the heaters separate and only about enough for 1/2 of the meals. Not as heavy of a plastic pouch. Could even do without the napkin/matches/plastic spoons. I usually have those and they can be added as needed. A bit more fiber in the meals and if they do put something in them that hinders bowl moments that can be left out. I am not going into combat and if things get that bad I am not going to last very long anyway.

My 2 cents Randy

Last time I looked those got bad reviews on amazon. Have you ever eaten them? Would be curious to know if they are any good.

Yup, I used to eat them a lot in my backpacking days. You don't buy them for the taste, you buy them because they're light an easy to carry. In this case, they're easy to store. I didn't think they tasted any worse than an MRE. :D
