hobbies that help

Postby droid_ca » Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:14 pm

Well lets see what some of you do for hobbies that would be benificial to Teardrops or Tiny Travel Trailers or Camping in general

I myself am into electro platting and doing leather work I'm just starting to get into do wood and antler carving through a friend of mine but in all honesty I think we do more beer drinking and talking then actual carving but hey its a start so I'm hoping that I can use some of these skills into building my TD

So what do you guys do ????
maybe we can help each other out .... you never know...just look how helpfull this site has been for so many people...Thanks Mike

Being a woodworker and general fix-it guy as well as computer user and amateur photographer doesn't hurt.

We build model planes (TDs seem like big models ), make guitars and tube amplifiers from scratch, paint portraits and landscapes , dabble at architectural design ( designed and built my own house ),make English longbows, restore old cars , and play in a band ... and since retired , spend a good deal of time taking care of the wife , she's still working ...
Thinking about doing some container gardening ... but the last couple years have become obsessed with Tiny Trailers ... How weird is that ? :o

My metalworking hobby (welding/fabrication) has been dominating my time lately, leaving woodworking on the back burner.

I have also done leather work, made chainmaille armor, and a few other handcrafts. I cannot just "sit around" so when I could be doing that I'll usually be whittling on a stick or just tying fancy knots in a bit of cord. I seldom suffer idle hands and waste very little time sitting in front of a TV or computer....

Paint, draw, write (short stories and halfway into my first novel), carve, refinish furniture, theoretical physics, reading, home renovations, electrical. In general I like to learn new things. That is the best hobby of all.

Not as a hobby; but spent 36 years as a Toolmaker/Machinist with Boeing Commercial. So I guess I still have a bit of skill left.

I'm in the publishing business by day and play in a Blues band at night. I'm a drummer--insert drummer joke here.

Electronics school..... Welding classes...... auto mechanics training.....
OJT in plumbing in ALL medias including glass pipeing. Also OJT in 220 440 and 660 explosion proof wiring.

I was a design draftsman for a couple years (pre C.A.D.'s we used a pencil)

I Have made saw dust since I was 10 years old building bird houses, dog houses and tree forts. Dabbled in autobody paint and body work. I Have now been in lumber and construction over 25 years.

Biggest hobby/business prior to teardrop building was the construction of custom mini barns and out building.

Both grandfathers were woodworkers and I learned a lot from both of them when I would stay with the grandfolks for a few weeks in the summer. The family tree is full of professional and advanced amatures in wood working and metal fabrication.

There is something that runs in the genes that make a person want to create with his/her own hands.

Yeah - it's not that hard to do - but you need to make sure you use good clean practices. for a HomeBrewer you can make some pretty good stuff - at a very reasonable price - maybe $3/gallon
