For anyone interested in attending Burningman (a festival of creative self expression held annually in the Nevada Black Rock desert) there is a thread going on in the Southwest section.

Just out of curiosity but, isn't the desert public land?

Yes, It is BLM land but Burning Man, i.e. Black Rock City, llc, operates under a special use permit from the BLM, thereby can cordon off the area and charge admission for BRC time period. They actually own quite a bit of land in Gerlach where they store a great deal of equipment year round.
