Trolley top

Postby danlott » Mon Feb 14, 2011 1:12 am

Don't have a hard and fast rule for a trolley top. I think 6 to 8 inches high would be best. Also if you plan on installing windows in the trolley top then you need to consider how you are going to construct the windows. I used google sketchup to design my trolley top. I was able to draw it several different ways before I settled on my final design.

I will make sure to include pictures of the stove in my build thread when I get to that point. Probably be a little while though at the rate I am going. By the way, thanks again for helping out with that.

Doug Hodder has done a few beeeeauties. He's a great guy and gives incredibly valuable guidance. Here's a link:

You might try the search in the top line of the masthead area too.

I do it all old school....paper, scale, triangles and a french curve. Just draw up something to scale that has good curb appeal to you so that the top doesn't look like it's tacked on as an afterthought. At least that's my approach.

I also insulate the tops, although not as much as the rest of the roof. You need to remember that the inside won't be as large as it appears on the exterior with insulation, important when wanting to install any portholes or windows in it. Allow enough lift to fit any openings and still allow some material around them. The aft end of a trolley top is a great place to hide a fantastic fan. Just what I've found. Doug

I always wondered if a trolly top would not be a good place to semihide an air conditioner, but I'm just a noob, what do I know. Hey Doug is that feasable or not. And now back to the regularly scheduled thread, Doug
