Foam mattress

We have been looking at walmart foam mattress's .I know a lot of you have them and would like some help .We like a firm mattress and I guess the thicker they are ,the firmer they are.We appreciate your inputs.

After looking forever I made the purchase of their 4 inch foam
after placing it on my bed at home it made way to tall for my short legs so this sunday I removed the box springs now I have a spring mattress covered with the walmart foam matteress I now can sleep the night away.
I did have to put some rubberized shelf liner between the mattresses to keep them from sliding apart, I must toss and turn more than I thought.

I bought the 4" in memory foam from Walmart. I bought a full size and cut it down to a 46" wide and kept the length. My little myPOD has no galley so I have a full 96" length.

I just added some of those gym/kid 2 x 2 interlocking squares under the bed for extra insulation this winter...haven't slept in it that way yet but it was fine before. Six inches would probably be better but I didn't want to spend the extra dollars or give up another 2" of headroom.

Overstock.com here, and got,as I recall, 3 inches of foam and 2 inches of memory foam. Bought king size, because it was the same price as full, and cut it down. Extra went on daughters bed.

I got a 2" topper for my bed here and it is great! Did a JC Penny's 4 inch firm for the TD and it still is too firm for me. I bought a 2 1/2 " topper from Sam's club and wow as long as it is warm I love it. Cold and it firms right up..

The problem with foam is you can't take it back...

I bought a memory foam mattress on the internet that is perfect. It was a queen size 4" 10lb. mattress. which gives you enough support so at only 4" you never feel the floor, but you sink into the mattress. I think the real hint here is to make sure you get at least a 10lb mattress. Most of the ones that are available are 2 to 6 lb which I think would not give you enough support. They also have 15 and 20lb mattresses if you like a very stiff feel. The company I got it from was bluen ridge bed, and it was 60.00 which included shipping. It comes in what would appear to be a box that is too small, but when you open it up it expands. The nice thing about a memory foam mattress is that you can fold it up out of the way if you have a compartment under your mattress. or you need to haul something that may not e the cleanest. I know you can go thicker and get a 6" or 8" mattress, but remember, 2 to 4" is a lot in a teardrop.

I used 5" foam for my mattress. It wasn't enough so I added 2" memory foam to it and also my home bed. I have since removed the memory foam from both. I found I just sink into it and then can't move. I did not like it either in the TD or at home. I think what I might do on the next one is get an inner spring mattress that you find in semi truck sleepers. I have tried them and they feel pretty good. The springs keep you up. I have found a place that will make a custom size for you but I have not asked yet how much that would cost. But you can get a pre made one that fits a sleeper.

It really isn't the thickness as much as it is the density that determines the firmness. When we made our mattresses for our Apache, we had a friend who owned an upholstery shop order us some 3 inch high density foam from one of his suppliers. It had better support than most of the 4 inch foam that we were finding locally.

One of the things he taught us is that the best way to cut the foam is with an electric carving knife (the kind you use for carving up a turkey). It cuts fast and clean, and is easy to cut a straight line.

For the covers, we found some upholstery fabric on the "dollar a yard" at WalMart. We did two 4x7 mattresses with $10 worth of fabric.
