Bluegrass festival camping

Postby zapj » Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:29 am

I was wondering if anyone has gone to the Hillside Bluegrass RV Park in Cochran, Ga for their festival. The web page shows a nice campground and on paper looks well laid out. I have never been to a Bluegrass but thought it might be fun. I'm off for a first adventure for a three day stay in May. If anyone is interested in going and camping I'm open for friends. Oh yea, from what I was told when selecting a site there are a couple of groupings such as party types and quieter groups. I selected the semi party.

Ya know we might have to try and go to that. Its not to far from us and I love to listen to some Bluegrass music. Have to check with my other half and see if we can make it.

Hi Zapj,
A little to far for me, but I love bluegrass and roots music. Acoustic instruments, singing and harmonies. The bluegrass festivals I've been to always have the musicians playing around the campfires after the concert ends. I think that is best part. I'm sure you'll have a great time. This is the first one i'll be going to. It's still too cold up here in Michigan. The first one is MayFest weekend of May20. http://www.wmbma.org/events.html

I agree 100% the best music is in the campground after the main event.

Yes I have heard about the jam sessions at all hours of day and night. That semi party area I mentioned was because I understand the heavy duty party people will stay until the wee hours playing. Since this is a regular event twice a year with other Bluegrass activities monthly the park is set up with pavilions scattered within for jamming. If it is anything like what is advertised it should be a lot of fun. Thanks for the feedback Big Dan, Newrollo and hope to see you there CliffinGA.

There is the DelFest in May in Cumberland, Maryland. I've heard it's a nice festival.

Here it is Mike! http://www.hillsidebluegrassrvpark.com/FestivalInfo

TD is going slow but almost finished Demo'ing on the trailer. Hope to get it finished tomorrow while the new dishwasher is being delivered and the HVAC guy is here giving us an estimate . But have gotten most of the parts for it in: Same fan as your tab, Elixir converter and interior lights. If the frame is finished tomorrow I will have subfloor built on Sunday. Just a lot of fun when I can work on it.

Those are great looking instruments hotrod! Do you play? Violin is an essential part of roots music scene as you probably know. I'm a autoharp guy myself. I know you will thoroughly enjoy a festival. Sometimes the camping is part of admission, or free with it.

Thanks Newrollo for reminding me I forgot to mention originally that the fee for camping at Hillside during the festival is $22 a night for e&w. Then you can tack on $30 per person for the weekend festival. I didn't feel the price was excessive but then again remember I have never camped at this park or attended a Bluegrass Festival.

The Hillside camping looks great zapj and after 22 years they probably do it right. In a couple years I'll be one of the "snowbirds" they talk about. By then I hope to know a couple tunes by heart. Lately though it seems I've become a slow learner.
