Wet shoes in a teardrop?

Postby GuitarPhotog » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:29 pm

What do you do with your wet shoes and umbrella in your teardrop?

My overnight first trip with the Tin Tent became a bit damp when a storm rolled in and turned the campground into a shallow pond. Crawling into the trailer with wet shoes presented an issue of where to put them and the umbrella. I ended putting them in one of the storage cabinets in the cabin, but I had to choose the cabinet with the least clean dry stuff in it, because everything got wet and dirty.

My intention in getting the teardrop is to be able to get out and go camping more often and without worrying about the weather. If every storm turns the interior into a dirty mess...

Due to the nature of the Tin Tent, I can't change the interior storage compartment configuration - there are 2, each about a 2ft cube, with a lift up door on each.

Thanks in advance,

<Chas>

I found a gym bage sized fabric sack with a waterproof inside liner. (Yep, you guessed it Goodwill)

It has a draw string. Kinda resembles a mini duffle bag. Works great. We use it to keep the side curtains for the pop up and our priacy curtain and table cloth in but if needed it can be used for muddy shoes and wet clothes and then cleaned up and restocked at home later.

The nylon camp chair sleves that you are supposed to store the chairs in ( which I never bother with) are great little storage sacks also, however not water proof just water resistant.

I have also in the past pressed a couple of our trash bags into service before getting the bag.

I have a small Rubbermaid dish size pan I keep inside for shoes. I plan tol build a shelf to hold it and keep it off the mattress next. I camp alone so space is not a big deal.

I have one of those small cheep plastic shoe boxes from the dollar store. I then slide it under the tear.

wet shoes never make inside

I have a couple pieces of PVC pipe, each big enough for one pair of shoes, screwed underneath the floor at the entrance door. There are holes in the bottom of the pipe for drainage and air circulation. Sit in the doorway, slip off your shoes, put them in the pipe, slip the cap on. Wet shoes never make it inside.

Gage, your rug and shoes would have floated away. The whole place was under about 2" of water by morning. Several of the other campers were retrieving sodden carpet and door mats from under the water.

The awning idea is great, but for a quick overnight, I can't see going to the trouble.

I like the plastic dishpan idea. I think I can make that work very easily.

I like jandmz's idea of space under the door, under the trailer. I'm going to give that some thought. Maybe a plastic dishpan mounted as a drawer under the entry door...

Well, at ADK in 2009 we had 2" of water around the tear (some on say "dont set camp in a swamp") and still the shoes didn't get wet. In case you haven't heard, I'm known for bringing the rain were ever I go. :o

Remind me not to go camping with you then Gage :D

The campground wasn't a swamp until it had rained all night. But I probably won't use that campground again.

No matter what the weather I stop at the car and change shoes to all rubber flip-flops. Smooth soles that don't trap mud and are real small in the tear. Also easy and quick to put on in the middle of the night when I really don't want to think.

I have one of those rubber maid drawers that I put under the teardrop and put my shoes in, keeps them dry and keeps bigger critters out of my shoes. Also have a pair of shower shoes that I just set on the fenders or stuff between the tire and the fender, if they get wet a quick shake and they are mostly dry.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

I have used the plastic groscery bags. Untie your shoes and put them in the bag. then pull them inside and put that bag in another dry bag and tuck them away

Outside in a container...but don't leave the container on the ground.
A drawer type arrangement under the floor is probably better.

Irresponsible dog owners who let fido roam about at night are a concern, as well as the native population of creatures who will sometimes walk off with those yummy smelling shoes... :o
