Its a camper, its kinda 'tear' shaped, but.......

Postby phlat » Thu Mar 10, 2011 4:03 pm

you don't tow it.

I ran across this a while back and was wondering if anyone was lucky enough to have seen one? They seem to be mostly in Sweden (Swedish company) and surrounding areas. Similar to a truck camper (which they made a version of as well) its a loft bed over the vehicle, couch and a small kitchenette. I'd love to have one on a nice Saab 9-3 like in the pic.

They made them to replace the hatches on a few models of Saab's, and two EU released Fords I believe.

And as a note: the car is squatting cause it has shorter stiffer racing springs on the rear. Its not due to the weight.

Actually that car is squating because it is pulling a trailer with another car on it. The performace springs just make it look worse.

There are other pics on the site with the same car without the trailer and it is sitting level.

Cool Idea for a nitch market. Those just prove you can built light and strong.

I saw the other pix but in that one, it doesn't look like the coupler is hooked up to anything. None the less, neat little camper.

Ohh yes.. Made by Finns living in Sweden. ;) Small, compact and light weight. Very comfy as well and quality made. Mainly for the Scandinavian Market even though small orders have gone to mainland europe.
They were mainly made for the early Saab.

Funny how people in the EU tow all kinds of stuff , but the same cars here are "not recommended" TV's...

That's cool but how is it attached to the car? I can't see how it would stay on top the roof at 70mph. Anyway, just a thought.

When I was a kid, a long, long time ago, someone in our neighborhood had a camper similar to that, but MUCH larger, mounted on a 4dr Pontiac Bonneville. The trunk floor served as the floor of the camper, with a bed over the roof of the car. I don't recall ever seeing another like it, and I have not been able to find any information on it in the years since.

Doris, it bolts/pins to the car the same place the hatchback does. You swap one for the other.

I wonder if it has a lower hatch entry inside the car? It would make more usable room when camping?

Car appears to be very overloaded, cannot imagine that it would handle very well, Towing is towing anywhere on the globe unless the tv is equiped different over seas, then safety must play a part in the US tow ratings being lower for most small compact cars. Waiting to see one of the new Fiats towing something around. I am sure someone will.

Hi jandmz,

If that Pontiac Bonneville was a 1964 Blue 4dr Hardtop [I believe],
it was for sale on the Tin Can Tourist Classifieds a year
or so [possibly longer] ago. Don't know if they archive stuff like
that or not.

Cheers,
