Why are 5lb propane tanks so expensive???

Can anybody answer this question? I can buy a 20lb tank for $25-$30 almost anywhere, why the jump to $45-$100+ (Yes, I did actually find one online that breached the $100 mark.)???

My guess is because they are not as common. The more you make the cheaper they become.

You got it Gary...supply and demand. I actually found a brand new 10 lb tank for $15 at a garage sale and snapped it up. Camping world wanted about $60!

Here's my trick.
Go to your local land fill/dump.
If they are like most they recycle propane tanks.
I have found one 5lb tank and a 11lb tank (free) I took the tanks to my local propane dealer and had them reconditioned.
The cost to me with the tank filled was about $30/$35 bucks.
It pays to recycle. Or should I say it saves to recycle.
