My new Toad and "What to do with myClothes"?

Postby Dogs_rule » Tue Apr 19, 2011 10:38 am

Here is our new Toad. I picked her up on Saturday and we are heading out this Friday to Zion and Las Vegas for a long weekend.

What do you do with your clothes when you hit the rack for the night if you don't have a changing tent? I have a box for our shoes to slide under the Toad but we don't want to sleep with our stinky clothes in the cabin.

Since my TD has generous storage in the cabin, I just put my clothes in a dirty-clothes bag in one of the storage cupboards.

Umm... Not trying to be negative, but isn't this something to think about before purchasing a small camper

I stay at campgrounds that have bathrooms/showers so we clean up at the end of the day and put on our pj's (sweatpants in my case. The wife and kids have more traditional sleep wear). In the morning, grab the clothes for the day and go change out of the pj's.

Some tents have room dividers and make great changing rooms and places to store your other items.

We have 5x5 canopy with solid sides that sets up at the the TD door. We use it to change in and then put the dirty clothes in a bag in the back of the pickup.

I use these. They are quite large, easily closed, have a carry handle and quite sturdy. I have used the same one for at least six years now. Keeps the soiled laundry all in one place (and the odors too :D )

The grubby clothes go in the dirty clothes bag and are then put on the dog's side of the bed. :)

Ditto!! They'll use anything as a pillow.

We put our dirty clothes in the car in a big black lawn trash bag.
We put our clean clothes in a duffle bag in a 2 room shower tent (where we change our clothes, keep our porta potty, and shower).
As for the dogs and cats... the stinkier the clothes the better!

well,, theres two schools of thought on this.
we have two double clothing hooks mounted on each side wall, hang the clothing there. realitivly clean ones anyway.

the other thought is camp only at nudist camps and you have no problem to deal with. (this was voted down by my wife by the way.)

Don't do that if you come out this way for a camping trip - you'll wake up to find half of your clothes gone due to critters, and scorpions will be sleeping in the clothing and shoes that are left. Neither of which are conducive to a happy camping experience. :o

Our clothes and shoes come in the camper/tent with us, and dirty clothes go into a Space Bag that stays in the Jeep the next morning. DW has a couple of Space Bags that no longer hold a vacuum, but they work great for temporarily storing stuff like dirty clothes.

Either toad doesn't mean what I think it means or it doesn't mean what OP thinks it means. Could someone clarify?

Our dirty clothes either go at the bottom of the bed or in a dirty clothes bag on the shelf. Part of enjoying getting home is getting everything cleaned up. If I was in the boonies, I'd ignore the smell, if I was in civilization I'd look for a laundry if the smell got too bad. Enjoy camping, you've got a nice rig.

Our TD is in construction but I we're planning on doing the same thing we do tent camping. At days end, you take a shower or PTA bath, change into night clothes (sweats if it's cold), and put the dirty stuff in a duffel bag with half a sheet of fabric softener. In the TD, we'll stow the duffel in the space vacated by the used clean clothes in a cupboard. If we didn't have a cabinet, I'd probably stow it in the tongue box or tow vehicle. The fabric softener will keep the smell down even in the summer heat.

Cheers, Dave
