Jack Wheel

Postby the other side » Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:28 pm

I'm looking for a removable jack wheel with the caster assembly that is made to roll in gravel or sand. My daughter has a wheelchair that you can order specialty wheels (like if you want to take the wheelchair on the beach). Has anyone seen any specialty wheels for the jack on the tongue of a trailer/camper?

I still don't see it, or am I looking in the wrong place. The one wheel they list doesn't say anything specific. It is being sold for 19.99. The other one is 29.99 but that is a bolt on and neither mention anything about being different from all the others (the common ones).

I think Slowcowboy's idea is great. I wonder if HF has the same castor that locks. ie a brake.
I bought the HF trailer dolly for moving my trailer around in the dirt.

I did see some castor wheels with breaks, but none of them looked as big. I would have to find someone that can weld it for me though. But I do REALLY like the brake idea! I was going to get a dolly but I figured it would be more convenient to just have a good pair of wheels instead of a wheel and a dolly.

glenpinpat that's just what I was thinking about! I'm gonna get that. Thanks for finding it for me. I can't find that ANYWHERE else.

Meineke fixed the wheelchair tires tons of times before they figured out I was doing 16 stairs atleast 2 times a day and pinching the tire/tube. Expensive lesson learned and a major inconvenience too (no chair till it was fixed and repeated trips to meineke). But the teardrop will NOT be going down stairs... just through the thick gravel in my driveway!

Thanks load you all!!! The convenience of having it delivered and ready to use will be worth the money. Wait till you see these on my little tiny tear! I'm sure they will look HUGE!!! But they will be functional and easier I assume!

I called Croft today. They actually designed (I guess and make) this jack wheel kit. The lady told me they have been making them since last year. They are the only ones I can find that have this design. I wonder why no one else has put this out? To me it is a logical/common sense solution, and easier to carry with you (compared to a dolly, which would be my second choice).

I figured out the Croft wheel does not pivot. The guy at Croft was very helpful and told me how I could get my jack to turn instead (by removing a nipple on the jack where there is a ridge running down the length). My husband doesn't like that idea, so now all I have to do it find someone that can weld the pipe piece on the caster like slowcowboy did. I thought this was going to be an easy purchase and wait for it in the mail.
