ADCO vinyl tire cover discoloration

Postby cracker39 » Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:43 pm

I ordered and received a vinyl tire cover from Adco Products. I put it on my spare tire and within a few weeks, the cover started turning a yellowish brown wherever it touched the tire, even though there is a felt inner lining between the vinyl and the tire. I called Adco and told them about the problem. They asked me to email them a photo of the tire cover and I did.

The answer I got was that this discoloration will often happen if the tire is new or has been treated with one of many tire shine products. They were kind enough to send me a new cover and told me to wrap the tire with plastic wrap prior to putting the cover back on the tire. I checked the box with the new cover, and it does tell the buyer to wrap the tire with aluminum foil or cellophane wrap before putting the cover on it. I just didn’t read the box from front to back.

I plan to leave the cover off until I take the trailer out which may be months from now. Even then, I’ll put some aluminum foil around the tire before putting the cover on. It will probably make the cover slip on easier too.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

I learned from another group about the spare tire cover problem.
When My then new trailer arrived I wrapped the spare in saran-wrap the cover remained new looking,
I don't know about aluminum foil.

Mine also came with the manufacturers name and number on the cover a little thinner and it was gone
I did it before the paint was to old and leached into the cover.

Put a garbage bag over your spare tire under the cover
