AT&T to Trac Phone

Postby southpennrailroad » Mon Aug 01, 2011 7:00 am

I have had AT&T since 2007 and now I am on a month to month but am not using the minutes as much so I am going to a Trac phone at least until next year when I was told my wire less card is off the 2 year plan and that I could get a new phone and tether it to my laptop at a cheaper price. Always looking for a smaller bill. I am presently paying $70.00 for the phone plan and $40.00 for the wireless total $110.00. Will save a little this way. Getting rid of the storage shed also. I figure if I don't know whats in the shed a year after having it I figure get rid of its contents and save $60.00 a month as well.

On another subject. I decided I like compromises. Yesterday I was cutting grass and a neighbor next door to a job I was at asked me to cut his grass and I told him at first that I would do it for $35.00 after I asked him what he was having the other guy cut his grass for and he said $65.00. I was told he would give me the job for $50.00. Now I am going to start asking in a sealed paper for them to show me their willing to pay price and I will do the same on my asking price. The middle difference is what we will try to reach for. their price (them willing to pay) is usually more then what I am asking for so we should come to me getting more then I want. I always under bid so in the end I get more then I usually want.

We did something similar last year. We had a Verizon contract and switched to the cheapest one possible until it got close enough that we could buy out our contract (it goes down every month.) We used Straight Talk phones during that time and still do. They are $45 month for unlimited talk, text, and internet. About 1/3 of what we were paying on contract.

I agree about the storage shed. I've never had one and never will. I always felt like if I have so much crap that I have to pay to store it, then I don't really need it and will get rid of it. We have a small backyard shed for yard tools. My holiday decorations store inside as I don't want mice/bugs touching the boxes (even though they are rubbermaid.) Camping stuff gets stored in the camper. Nothing else means enough to me to store. I'm kind of a reverse-hoarder, I get rid of things as fast as new things come in. Excess stresses me out.

We have used Tracfone for 6 years. Works well for us as we don't talk on it much. I encourage my wife to call the kids as she has hundreds of minute stored. She just needs to call the kids more.

We are on a Family Plan. $17.00 a month. She gets 60 mins and I get 45. We still accumulate time and I always have a phone for emergencies.

BTW, it has always work most anywhere we were except the Boundary Water in Northern Min.

Pssst..... As for service, Tracfone runs on AT&T network ( also some on T-Mobile)....

I have used the 365 day for $99 and "double minutes" plan for years (maybe 10 at least) ... And buy addition minutes if needed.....

We also have a "storage shed" full of minutes we use it so little...

Been using a Virgin Mobil pay as you go phone for years. Thinking about getting a new phone and going with their $35/month plan - 300min with unlimited data texts & e-mail. Looked at my history and I've been topping up $50 every couple of months so I won't be paying too much more.

Also looked into it and one of their new phones can be tethered to a laptop. They don't officially allow tethering, but some folks have been doing it for a while.

I have to say, Straight talk isn't bad.

I can get by on the $30 plan, and a little secrete, I go way over on texts and data EVERY month (80% of my time on here is on my phone) and never get cut off. AND the dang thing works EVERYWHERE, even in my livingroom and bedroom.
