We just couldn't do it...

For two weeks we have had our TD on various sites to sell it and last week we looked at a Pop up Camper. We liked what we saw and signed a purchase agreement and left a small deposit. It was a really good deal and included many optional things that they threw in on the purchase price. This morning we were about to go and pick it up, got in the truck and sat in the driveway with the engine running and we realized that we just really didn't want to give up our Tear. We agonized over it for 20 minutes all the time the engine running. We couldn't do it. We called the RV dealer and cancelled the purchase. We felt bad about it as they were all very nice & accomodating towards us the week before however, they understood. They did keep our deposit per the agreement but that was to be expected. We would never be able to find another quality Teardrop like the one we have and love so we are going to keep it. We're happy. Sometimes you have to just go with your gut feeling instead of being swayed by something you really never wanted to begin with. And so it goes...

It can be really hard to move away from things that mean so much.

I've been thinking for 6 years about selling my trailer to build another, even better one...but while the years go by, I just keep thinking; man, this one isn't perfect, but it works pretty well...maybe next year I'll get started...
Who knows, maybe I'll build one some day.

If you change your mind again, maybe a nice used pop up to try for a season would be a safe way to find out if it is what you really want before giving up your teardrop.

I know what you guys mean. After all the planning and work these things become like family members. Attach all the fun times you had and it makes it even harder to think about replacing them.

I know the feeling over the years I have owned several trailers most I was glad to see them go
then I made my "buddy" a real deal on a pop-up I had because I had just bought a Travel trailer I liked,
he sold the pop-up within two weeks I had owned it for 20 years yep 20 always stored inside.
then after two other travel trailers sold I had a small 8 foot box pop-up
I saw a big 23 foot travel trailer which I used it for two years in florida during the winter
so I sold the pop-up then someone came along and bought my TT and I have been without every since.
so I'm glad for you that you didn't buy and decided to keep the TD.
remember they sell pop-ups everyday not so TD's

I bought a fiber glass egg for my wife when she goes with me she thinks the tear is to small. After I got home with the new camper "she said are you going to sell the tear. " My reply was WHAT! NO WAY that's my camper this one is yours. After all the work I put in to that thing it will be with me for ever.

Always go with your gut. It's a kharma thing. That popup was probably cursed and would have snapped a lift cable the first time you used it. Besides, do you really want a bunch of demented teardropers laughing at you? I think you made the right choice.

Tim, I've been watching your TD on CL, and I wondered why it suddenly disappeared. No, I wasn't interested in buying--just a curious type of interest.

I'm glad you're keeping it--it is a beauty!!

You know what's sort of funny? I have NEVER seen a TD in Indy, EXCEPT at a dealer. It's nice to see there are some others who camp small.

Uh heck Tim have both!! I do and working on a bigger tear. Before we got into td's we bought a 2009 Palomino pop up which I used out of town evbery week that first year from July until Nov. Then I found my TD on CL and picked it up for $600. WE fixed it up and started taking it out and lovbed it and were talking about delling the pop up but decided to keep it because U ain't sleeping with her momma and the pups in the tear if ya know what I mean . Plus Sheri's brother and family moved back to GA and we've taken the kids with us once since they got back and its just too hot to tent camp right now, Keep an eye out and you can find a pop up cheaply on CL if you want and have both.

ps: we also loan the pop up to friends but will nevet lend the tear!!

I've backed out of a pop up deal before... I"ve had a couple of them...they are fun, but a tear is a lot easier to set up and I don't have to set it up at home to dry out any soggy canvas. both have their +'s and -'s They are nice if you have bad weather and can't be outside though. That's why I built a standy to go along with the tear.

Thing is...no one gives you thumbs up on a pop up dragging it down the road and you meet a lot more people in a tear....you backed out for a reason, and it was probably the right one.

The magic of a manufactured RV wears off much faster than the payments. And you never have the satisfaction of knowing you built it. Just my opinion. Doug

I loved our teardrop, but the wife said it was too small. (Hot too) So, I went the pop up route.....however, it is an Aliner. Very light weight and sets up in 30 seconds. Love it.
