Modifying my LG, TD... AGAIN

Postby canned o minimum » Thu Oct 27, 2011 9:50 pm

Bought my 2005 Little Guy as a "salvage" find. The body was OFF the frame and it looked like it had been pushed off a cliff ! It was only 3 or 4 years old at the time !

So I took out the "galley" area. ( There wasn't any REAL galley in it to begin with) I opened it up completely as I also use the trailer fer car shows and display a LOTTA stuff inside the trailer AND the car.

Been campin in it fer 3 years now and decided that "I" wanted a galley area to store my food, pots n pans, utensiles, etc.

I was really tired of puttin everstuff into a rubbermaid tub and settin it all ON my mattress !

Roly Nelson was way too kind enuf to design and install the "galley" area fer me...WHAT A GREAT MAN !

Now I am doin a little modification to MY previous modification and am usin a shelf at the head of the teardrop fer a storage box. It was jus wasted space and I NEED storage !!

Now the trailer will be more suited fer campin than car shows, but at least now it is a more "traditional" teardrop trailer with the "kitchen" in the rear.

Still gotta put the hinge on the front storage box ( inside ). But I am STOKED to have all the storage areas now.

probably the biggest reason that I never considered a LG was no galley!

There's a 6' wide little guy for sale in my area for $2k, I've been looking at it thinking it would really jump start my progress, but lack of a real galley is a gigantic negative.

Do they even have much storage under the galley shelf, or does the bed extend the full length of the camper? They look really short vs other tears

All the storage under that shelf IS the bed ! Fer $2k it ain't a bad start andf ya can modify it to yer liking from there.

Of course, you'll still hafta carry yer ice chest in the TV or put it on the bed fer transit...which I don't like !

Been workin on my interior storage compartment and got it almost done. Then it's off to buildin a small shelf behind the galley wall, on the interior.

I remember when I first got the TD and spend 6 months customizin it . It was great fun ! Now I'm havin sum more fun with the modifications ...

They are but that was part of the appeal to me. SHort light and very easy to manage by myself.

It is interesting to me how opinions vary, and this thread is a good case in point. We have people here who don't like the Little Guy based on not having a "proper" galley. I, on the other hand, have no use whatsoever for a "proper" galley. I prefer to keep flames and grease away from my camper and bed. And, I'd rather have my cooler close to the cooking than in the back of the camper. I certainly DON'T want the cooler anywhere in the camper with me in raccoon or bear country. But, that's me. Many folks here have designed beautiful galleys with sinks and fridges and all the geegaws, and I appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of it, but I also recognize that I would never use it.

That said, I readily admit that the LG "galley" is pretty poor. Since it is really only storage, it can be set up much better than how it comes from the factory. And, that is what my LG will be getting this winter -- cabinets.

I never really considered the lack of a galley in the Little Guy to be a negative thing...cause "I" jus opened the whole trailer up and it was great to display my stuff at car shows !

Now that I have had my fair share of campin in it... "I" want the storage (Shelves etc.)

Since I also do my cookin OUTSIDE, I jus need the storage space rather than jus the "space".

Can't wait to git r done and go campin !!
