Custom front window rock guard

Postby mvperini » Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:59 pm

I have found the perfect solution for making front window rock guard for our tiny trailers and not so tiny. First you need to find an old Taco wagon I found one in a local wreaking yard and only paid 40 Dollars and remove the side door. it is made of aluminum and depending on who made it you will have some kind of design. the one i found weighted about 150 lbs because of all the water and rot in the frame
Most of this came out of the door

This piece was the inside cover for the door, i will use this on the next rock guard i build

I used the outside piece of the door and decided to use the backside of metal for the front of the rock guard as it was in better condition so after cleaning and polishing and cutting it down to fit the aluminum frame I built I installed the STARBURST patterm aluminum onto the frame with aluminum rivets. The wife loves it and it looks good on our 56 roadmaster trailer

Looks a lot better than the one the last owner built out of plywood for the trailer

Here is a picture of the one i built for my 57 Cardinal Canned Ham

I hope this will give you some idea on how to build one if you ever so desire to. not that hard and it sure looks good the only down side is when you look in the rear view mirror, you wonder who is following you so close

Nice looking Mike  .

I've been mulling around an idea for a removable rock guard for the teardrop.
There's no mud flaps on my 55 Chevy and that creates a problem with rocks.
I've seen tongue mounted ones made of PVC pipe with a screen looking covering but not fond of the PVC look.
Might have to go with an aluminum frame.

Another idea is to copy this mud flap idea I found on the Internet.
Again, I don't like the use of PVC as Aluminum pipe would be better suited for the application.
It would work best on all my vehicles, I think, but I'd need better details than this picture.

I have time before camping season to figure it out.
Need to find a local supply for the screen material once #4 is completed. :scratchthinking: Danny

P.S. Just found what I need & ordered one  . Rock Tamers

Really a nice looking guard on the window Mike. That sunburst pattern really sets it all off. Doug

That really looks sharp and is right in keeping with the character of the trailer. Great idea!!
