Odd thought

Postby Forrest747 » Mon Jan 16, 2012 3:57 pm

You look at campers in a different light when your building your own. I see so many stored outside, of course they cant fit into the garage. see them with simple tarps to custom made snuggie warm covers. Really you think the fur lining is going to help make the camper feel better about being in the cold. I was thinking do our campers last a little bit longer bacause we can store them in the garage? at least it doesnt hurt them to be indoors. Thinking about my airplane that i always hangered it seemed to always look better than those that had park out in the ramp all the time.

would love to keep my teardrop in the garage but that means i would keep my 49 chevy outside during the winter, cars worth a lot more than the teardrop  besides i have all my trailers stored inside at a buddies barn, not for free but they could use the extra money

Well, yes... I mean the fur lining is there to keep the surface from being scratched.

A $50.00 car cover with no lining is just going to scuff the crap out of a car. A $500.00 car cover with wool and moisture protection will keep your paint looking new for years (if your car/camper is clean when you slide the cover over it).

Up here on the north coast I'm planning to keep our TD under a carport-- one of those temporary ones-- more-or-less all the time, just to keep it drier. I mean, I've seen vehicles MILDEW on the outside up here during winter!

I'm thinking about running a 12v RV dehumidifier inside, too, just to keep the bedding from getting musty.

If it isn't broke, perhaps a more expensive tool is required to break it....

Hey Mike,

You really should take the bedding out of the tear when it is stored for long periods, especially in the winter around here.

Forrest747 I too kept my planes in hangers,
the fabric covered CUB, TAYLORCRAFT, and ARONICA as well as the pitts they too stayed better looking no snow and or hot sun bearing down on the fabric,
the Cessna and the Piper metal planes I kept them in a hanger too so the paint wouldn't fade.
Camper would not fit in my garage so it sat out side I tried to keep it polished until I got to old to do it myself
then I had the guy down the street who detailed cars do it.
I tried a cover but was a pain to install and remove.
I camped during the summer and winter so taking cover off and on didn't work for me.
a tall temporary shelter would have been fine.
I didn't own all those airplanes at the same time the most I owned together was two, not always the same two.

Pete had a cessna 172 until Lisa was pregant with Older daughter. Then we upgraded to a 337. Enough room for the family to expand. Really nice now with Jennie, she likes to sit in the back while Gremlin is my 9 year old co pilot. She really is into flying the most. keeps track of navigation and checklist. While I do trust her to do preflight checks i still go behind and check her work. I think she will solo as soon as she can see over the dash.
