Looking for a place

Im looking for a camping destination in the Midwest, where I can go and not see anyone for a few days...boondocks in the truest sense of the word. Any suggestions? I know the national Forrest allows for tent camping, but I want to hide away in comfort of my Serenity...

Head for the Desert. Plenty of dirt roads out there that nobody travels.

I know of quite a few places here locally (I tend to prefer boondocking myself.) I'm a little further away than midwest, but if you're willing to come all the way to Utah, I can give you some suggestions. What type of scenery do you prefer? Lakeside, streamside, red rock, forest, wide open, secluded canyon, etc.? Activities?, fishing, wildlife watching, hiking, biking, rock climbing, stargazing, scenery, etc.? I'm fortunate to have it all. I can't guarantee that you won't see anybody, but we're pretty remote.

A little far for a weekend getaway . Although, as an IT geek, if I Can find an IP address I can work. Sad partis THEY expect me to work...


I SO want to buy about 30-50 acres in southern Indiana Kentucky or Tennasee....a combo tree farm/camp site...

There are areas in Michigan national forests and Lots of Crown land up in Canada and areas in Wisconsin as well.

The UP of michigan, south eastern ohio has a big forest area.

Have you tried the Hoosier National Forest down around French Lick and Paoli in Orange County? There's some areas that are very remote and are off-grid. No, I can't give you an exact location--I figure there's some info out there somewhere.

I was thinking UP of Michigan, too. There are spots you can boondock along Lake Superior and it's very sparsely populated up there. I don't know that you would see absolutely no one, but the area to the east of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has dirt roads and not very many people.
