Portable Power Packs

Postby Dan & Julie CO » Sun Mar 04, 2012 5:07 pm

I'm just curious are there any campers that use portable power packs as a power source while camping ?
If so which one. I'm currently looking at the HF http://www.harborfreight.com/5-in-1-por ... 96157.htmlas a possibility

The batteries in most of those units are small and low quality.

You'd be money ahead having a real battery and battery charger. Garage sales are a great place to score a decent charger. Use a multi-meter to monitor the state of charge.

Read the customer reviews of the Harbor Fright battery packs, I'm not impressed.

I'm with ya man. I must own a dozen flashlights/headlamps/lanterns. I can't see having permanent lights in there. That's because all the batteries are dead in my flashlights. I might drill a hole in the floor to get an extention cord in there in REALLY cold weather to run a small electric heater when shore power is available. If it gets to hot, I go jump in the river for a few minutes. If the river dries up or gets to warm, I stay home.
