Carpeted sidewalls?

Postby Duckfenderly1 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 10:48 pm

Was wondering the pro's and con's of putting carpet on the walls. My lovely wife thinks we should like the little guy tear :x but I gotta love her :worship:. What is the best glue for doing this? Hope there is more con's than pro's. Thanks for any input. Joe

Pros,
No condensation
warmer to touch
warmer to roll up against in sleep
little extra insulation
Warm fuzzy feeling

Cons
Real pain holdin that upright vacuum over your head
Dust collector
corners will start letting go after awhile

Use spray on cantact cement
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I just carpeted the interior of my teardrop with hull liner. I haven't camped in it yet, but it sure is an improvement over the old bare aluminum sides.

The hull liner fabric is pretty porous, so it wasn't really compatible with contact adhesives, so I used hot glue.

My little guy came with carpet on the walls. I like WOOD ! So I stripped all the carpet out and covered the entire interior with WOOD ! I jus LOVE it ! Who wants curling corners or built up dust? But it's YER teardrop .. do it how YOU want it !

I carpet all my trailers inside, sometimes everything, sometimes just parts.

I do it during construction not after.

Its a good insulator and makes things a lot quieter.

Carpeted sidewalls?

Postby Verna » Tue Apr 10, 2012 6:37 am

My Little Guy Escaped2 has carpeted walls. I'm envisioning a few Velcro attached items to help with storage: net storage bags for my eyeglasses, cell phone, flashlight, Escape keys, dog water bowl (so Sunny Day or Mom doesn't spill her water), and so on.

I also plan on having a Dust Buster or the like on hand to clean the inevitable tracked in "things". Hummmm, where could I Velcro that to the wall????

The best thing about the carpeting is that I'll be able to move the storage items to another location without leaving holes.

Rip van winkle was finished when I decided I wanted insulation in the side walls so I cut blue foam to simply press fit into place I test fit then removed and wrapped it with a soft material pulled tight and simply back taped it in place. I shoved the sections back into place.

The beauty is the panels can be easily removed the material stripped and wash and dry the material and reinstall if ever needed.

Dust doesn't seem to be a problem because the Little Guy is pretty air tight. I'll run a vacuum over it before the next trip. The carpet is dark and the dog hair doesn't show on it. No problems so far.

Cubicle clips (like these: Staples) work great for hanging stuff on carpeted walls.

I used a marine hull liner for my walls, it keeps the walls warmer to the touch. I used a spray adhesive to hold it on. Three years so far and no separation.

The tissue adhesive we use is similar to super glue but I did mean spray adhesive
