I have a manual percolator that I've used for years..but I can't find it. SO...I bought a camping French Press from REI...gotta boil the water first, but it works great. I also have a 4 cup vintage (70's, of course!) avocado green 'Empire' brand electric perc. It works very well too, and will take it to places where I have electricity. Otherwise it's the Fr. press. I just can't get used to instant coffee..probably because I enjoy the taste of coffee. I don't drink it to have the caffeine. it's just a good, warm drink without sugar that I like in the morning..unless it's hot out, then I skip it entirely.
It's really interesting to hear how people do simple stuff like making coffee..I like the idea of using zip locks for supplies in the tear. This is going to be an adventure...I'm headed to the Dam, my first time trailer camping. I've always tent camped, and usually out of a small vehicle. So I can pack stuff pretty well. I don't think I'll spring for a propane coffee maker..I could just use the propane to boil the water and french press a whole pot for me and friends, but it is an interesting idea...
