No more tiny travel trailer

Postby frank_a » Sun May 20, 2012 4:36 pm

Maybe "small" would be more appropriate. We're going from 5 X 10 to 7 X 16.

We bought a 1983 deluxe model of Sunline's T-1550 Saturday. It will sleep 4 and needs very little. It's very complicated (after having Spot), with water & sewer stuff, power and propane appliances, a toilet/sink/shower small bath. It won't offer us as big a bed as we had in Spot, but that was pretty much all Spot was - a bed. It has all new cushions as well.

Spot needs a bit of repair and will then be sold this summer. For our first camper trailer, we had a blast with Spot. It certainly got used a lot last year.

Here's a few pics of "Sweet Sixteen."

Nice. :D
I upgraded to the van because the Silver Shadow was too small and had issues. (Leaking)

Since we got Spot, we now have a grandchild (he'll be 1 July 3) and a puppy (who will be 15 weeks Tuesday). We have crate trained the puppy, and want to maintain that when camping. We couldn't do that with Spot. Also, ever since our grandson was born, we've been sort of looking for a bigger trailer. We really just lucked into this baby. She's a beaut!

Nice looking van you have there. That's another alternative for us someday, because we haul a small classic speedboat to shows and regattas. It would save having to bring two tow vehicles.

Enjoy!

Frank,

We too just a month ago went from our LG Rascal 4' x 7' to the Cabin-A TTT 6'8" x 11'. It has all the same systems you mentioned, so it has alot more "mechanics" than the LG did! We really don't intend to use the HW Heater or Shower, as we are usually in a Park with decent facilities every few days at least. But we are enjoying the room it gives us, as you know the TD did not have much if any "indoor living" when the weather was bad!

We really are just planning on camping with the TTT the same as the TD, just with more elbow room! Congrats on the SunLine, you will love the additional space!

It wasn't the poor economy that did Sunline in. It was the new ownership in 2004. In 2004, an investment group--which included Paul Kozloff, John Whitehall, Bruce Cobb, Joe Bucara and former Sunline president Dale Zimmerman--bought Sunline's assets. Sunline employed 230 people in 2005 but shuttered a year later. During its 40-year history, the company made 70,000 RVs. It filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Eastern District of Pennsylvania, on December 6, 2006, with debts of $4.2 million. It is my belief the new owners drove it into bankruptcy.

Hey Frank-congrats on the new TT!! I can't beleive how identical a floor plan it is to my Play-mor!! I don't have the shower-it's a closet but it could be turned into one. Are you guys going to use the Gaucho Bench as your bed or the dinette? If Gaucho, I'm curious to know if it turns into a twin or full size bed? Your dinette table looks so much more appropriate than mine. Mine is a replacement and they used extremely heavy wood and put it on a twist pole instead making it a hinged unit. I can barely maneuver it on to the benches to make it a bed.
Do you have new pics of the puppy? I can't believe he is 15 weeks already!! I bet you can't wait to get out on the road with the furball!!
Are you putting new wheels or brakes on it? Just looking at the pic with the wheel off.
It looks really nice and clean and fresh. I sure hope you'll get years of enjoyment out of it!!
Any idea what you are selling Spot for?

Nice little trailer! Little bit of living space goes a long way during bad weather. IMO its also nice to have a toilet for those times when you wake up at 3 am and need one  ..

Thank you! with our new grandson, and our crate trained puppy (Buckley the schnoodle), we had been looking for something a bit bigger. This came up on the Sunline site over in Rochester a few weeks ago. The fellow was going to put it on craigslist, but would wait till we could come over and see it. I felt kind of crazy going all the way to Rochester, I mean it's at least two tanks of gas, but off we went, and came home with Sweet Sixteen. I don't really know which bed we'll use. I didn't think I would fit in the dinette bed but I do, so we'll see.

Here's a pic of Buckley from yesterday, right after his first haircut - a puppy cut...

Image

I am cleaning the brakes up. I think they work, but they need to just be cleaned and adjusted. I put a brake controller in my truck Friday night before we left for Rochester, and if nothing else, got that done right! The tires are all in decent shape, but over time, I'll get new radial trailer tires on aluminum wheels. First though is A/C (it's wired for it), then a new water heater and tank. It really doesn't need anything right now to go camping, but I will make it better over time.

I'm not really ready to sell Spot just yet. I want to do some trim on it, make new curtains, and fix a few things up. I put a ton of bucks and loads of time into that little ttt last year, and would like to get a reasonable price out of it. It sure is no longer the Sunspot I bought. It's a great little lightweight aluminum tent on wheels and will make some lucky person or couple a happy camper.

Take care and enjoy!

Well, the Sunline is gone, and now we have a nearly new (2012) ParkLiner, a small fiberglass trailer with a queen size bed and 6' 5" of ceiling height. This is it, we're done!

What didn't you like about your new "Larger" trailer that did like about "Spot"?

:applause: Congratulations Frank. I see your already over on the Molded Lightweight Fiberglass RV forum. Are you following me? First a teardrop then a standy and now an egg. ;) I still have my teardrop. Can't get rid of it, my daughter wants it. I've got a 13' Burro I just finished restoring. Only been out in it once but love it, just what we need.

Too many problems with the T-1550, leaks, just too much to do, and the bed was smaller than Spot. So we figure this trailer stuff is okay (after tent camping for 40 years), but if we had our druthers, what would we want? First of all, at least a queen size bed and flush toilet. Then something that wasn't gonna disintegrate in the rain, and something that wouldn't be a continual project. Hmm, fiberglass seemed to be the answer. Only one major seam, and that's around the middle. So after a lot of searching the web for what we thought would work the best for us, it came down to a ParkLiner. Queen size bed, flush toilet and shower, hot water, furnace, AC, dinette that converts to bunks, microwave, two burner stove top, 3 way frig. We planned to buy a new one, but this very lightly used one came up in mid-October, and within a few days off we were to NJ to get it. Worked out great. Basically, it's our retirement plan...

Also, we have new vehicles - Gail got one of the new turbocharged 2 liter Escapes with the tow package that does 3500#s, and I got the '01 F-150 in the pic that can tow 5 or 6000#s.

I always like the fiberglass pod looking things. Only real place for them to leak is around the doors and windows, and it they do, no wood to rot out. That should last for a while.
