mounting tv in td, any ideas?

Postby Aaron Coffee » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:04 pm

I have a 9"tv/dvd player that I have been thinking of mounting permanently/semi-permanently in my td and wondered if anyone has any ideas as to how to do it? It is about 10 years old, so it is not digital or a flat screen, but it works and it doesn't really cost me anything, and I think it would not be very desirable to theives, and then it would be out of the way in the house. I have thought about getting a small flat screen, but just can't justify the price for what it would get used.

Thanks
Aaron

I have no chairs in my living room, only recliners. If it were up to me, I would attach the screen to the ceiling of any td I had, and watch TV from a reclining position.

Never thought of that, I do watch tv at the dentist office while fully reclined, the only problem is it is a tube tv, so it is cube about 12"x12"x12" and would seriously impede headroom.

I would think twice & think again before sacrificing a cubic foot of storage space just to watch TV in a TTT. Maybe it's time to move up to a flat screen.

That looks streamlined compared to a 12"x12"x12" block of electronics.

I think a hinged shelf that swings down might be a good choice. One that has the outer corners supported with a rope or chain. I hope you understand what I am trying to describe. Then it can fold up out of the way when you don't want the TV inside.

I think that if you were to go with the new TV route that a roof mounted fold down would be the way to go they take up very little space when closed can be opened to watch from a sitting position or laying down the one that I have also has reading lights on it so that's a plus

So ... in the USA at least .. your TV is only good for a DVD player .. unless you add a digital converter .. or it is "cable ready" and you hook up to a campground cable outlet.

I bought a 12v LED TV/DVD that is sold to truckers and (since I don't have any galley or cabinets) mounted it with a swivel mount to one sidewall of my TD. Works great.

If all you want to do is play DVDs you could get a small handheld DVD player (with a 5 or 7 inch screen) .. it would take up a LOT less room and you could remove it from the trailer and use it other places.

IMHO that is WAY too big for inside a teardrop. Heck, my livingroom TV is 26 inches and I'm on the other side of the room.

The nice thing with this setup you have two different channels to choose from so you can have a stereo/DVD player or your laptop to choose from as for the size I'm sure there are smaller versions to choose from ...As a side not I had mine in my car and it worked great for the kids on long car trips

Best buy just had 19" LED on sale for 99 and a swing arm mount is 70 and I mounted mine on side wall to swing out and watch from the front of the camper and its rear side mounted. My cabin is only 4 ft wide and it works great and I bungee it to the side wall during travel.

My swing out mount has a quick release .. I slide it off and place the TV and the mount between the mattress and the covers for travel leaving a small bracket still on the wall.

I used a pull out shelf for a portable DVD player in the tear:

The DVD player rode inside the cupboard when not in use.

The portable DVD player only pulled less than an amp.

I used a fold down DVD player for the Boxcar:

Bigger picture but it pulls 4.5 amps. :o

Really good mounts that swing out or drop down are around $20 - $25 on Amazon. They move up and down, left and right, and swivel. I have bought about 8 of them in the past couple years. My cargo trailer, my motorhome, kitchen, and kids rooms.

Here is one I bought two of ($25);

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032H ... 00_s00_i00

A drop down for $14 (Put in kitchen of house and RV dining room)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00153 ... 04_s01_i00

Now this one was $45 but it comes with two mounts. I put one mount in the bedroom of the rv and one on the outside of the rv so I can just use the quick-detach feature and move it outside

I have three LCD's in my motorhome, one in my cargo trailer, and 9 in my home (got a big family). I know TV mounts!
