Offering the use of my 13' Kenskill Standy, free!

Postby Roly Nelson » Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:33 pm

My son is moving to Tampa Florida, where his grandkids now live. They are all avid campers and are into tenting, fishing and hiking. I have a nice, freshly painted 1956 Kenskill Standy, with a small eyebrow/sleeping area up front. I stripped the entire interior of the old paneling, flooring, cabinets and beds. Then rebuilt the whole interior, with new vinyl floor, new wall paneling, custom 680 piece curved ceiling, (made of 2" wide matching paneling pieces), new side to side bed that converts into seating for many, new upper and lower cabinets and formica counter tops, a new dinette table and seats that converts into a bed for 2. It has a hide-away porta-potty under the cabinet. The front eyebrow cabinet doors fold down to provide a 40 inch wide bed for at least 2 young kids, with a removable ladder to access the bed. An Airconditioner is mounted thru the wall below the dinette, that requires shore power and will probably freeze ice on the windows if left on all day.

Here is my offer: If there is someone who is interested in hauling this trailer to Tampa, and using it along the way, at their choice of route and time,I encourage them to contact me. I can't pull it with my 4 banger Chevy Cruze, but almost any pickup truck or SUV would have no problem towing it. The drawback is, I can't offer any return trip, if you want to return to So Calif. The ideal hauler folks would be anyone who plans to relocate in Florida, or somewhere nearby, and would like to take a leisurely trip on their way across the country in a fresh as a daisy little camping rig from my home here in Wildomar, Calif.

I haven't seen any similar offers like this, so don't know if anyone would even be interested. During my custom restoration of the interior, and being Teardrop oriented, I didn't install a sink, or stove and oven, since we had planned on doing all of our cooking and such on the outside where all of the action is. There is counter-top space for a 12volt/110 volt refer. This rig was hauled home to my house with my 02 Camry, but a bit stronger suspension would be required to handle the tongue weight. The interior is 6' 4" wide and 10 feet long, with huge windows all around. If this post is not approved by the Admins, please feel free to delete it.

8) Roly Nelson, the old TD builder and user, who has no further use for my pride and joy Vintage trailer, since all of my 9 grand kids and great grandkds have moved to Tampa, far away from their ol' Grandpa..........me, and I want them to use it.

My heart goes out to you, Roly. It really does. This happened to us 9 years ago. We are very close to our daughter and grandkids and had always been very involved in their lives since birth and then a "series of unfortunate events" left us living in Baltimore and them in southern California. It has been very difficult to adjust to.

Roly,

If no one takes you up on your offer, you might try calling a trucking/shipping service and see if they have any LTL (less than truck load) trucks heading to Florida or even close. They may be willing to give you a good price for transporting it just fill up the load.
