Started a New Trailer 6/30/12

Postby len19070 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:42 am

My son and I started a new trailer the other week. We had some time, some parts, were looking for a project and with the excessive heat here in the North East,Image
it was a good time to go into the shop....so.

The trailer will be up for sale in a few weeks. It takes a standard twin mattress is 9' long, has an Air Conditioner, torsion axle and as the progress goes on pictures will follow. (We're faster than the camera person...the galley is almost done).

till then

Happy Trails

Thanks Becky.

It was/is a great Father-Son project and a good place to hide during the HEAT!

Just a few updated photos taken this morning.

Some of the galley and the Doors...waiting for parts!

I was asked if this was a 48" wide Trailer. It is not! It is built to take a Standard, NOT Custom Twin Mattress. Standard sheets, a better mattress for less money. Just like at home.

Len -

I looks like you used the 24" wide aluminum then added the ribs for the siding. How is it attached? How did you handle the horizontal joints? What is on the roof?

Len, what a great tutorial! Two questions: (1) Did you use a solid piece of aluminum for the roof or will the same "Z" joint used on the sides provide a waterproof joint on the roof? (2) Do you have any pictures showing how you joined the corners/applied molding to create a waterproof seal?

Thanks Al.

I use a rubber roof (I don't trust "Z" joints on a roof...nor do I trust overlap seams either) and run the fabric over the side, then put an RV insert molding set in putty tape over the corner. Then trim the rubber so it goes over the siding.

I'll look for some photos.

BTW, I don't use RV EPDM rubber, I use the commercial grade available at any "GOOD" Roofing supply house. RV EPDM is 20 mills and the commercial, though its the same stuff is 40, and if you can get it 60 mills.

Re: Started a New Trailer 6/30/12 FOR SALE!

Postby len19070 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:36 am

Well its a Month since I started.

Still haven't gotten my windows yet (ordered them June 20th)

Tried out a new corner Molding...didn't like it. I'm going back to the standard RV insert Molding.

But with the exception of that, the windows and a few small details, I'm essentially done.

Once the windows come in It'll be going on Ebay...asking $4000.
